2Why the Partnership Program and COR
- Partnerships in Health and Safety Program is
based on the premise that when employers and
workers voluntarily build effective health and
safety programs in their own workplaces, the
human and financial costs of workplace injuries
and illnesses will be reduced. Worksafe BC and
the BCFPA believe that supporting health and
safety programs leads to larger reductions in
injuries than regulatory compliance alone.
3What is a Certificate of Recognition
- A Certificate of Recognition (COR) is given to
employers who participate develop a health and
safety management system/s that meet established
standards. Certificates are issued by Certifying
Partners and are co-signed by Worksafe BC.
Achieving and maintaining a valid COR is required
to earn a financial incentive through the
Worksafe BCs Partners in Injury Disability
Prevention program.

6Development / Consultation Process
- Consultation with internal and external
stakeholders began in April 2005 - Partner Program advisory group
- Establish Partners Program / COR section of
WorkSafe BC website
7WorkSafe BC BOD Decision
- Worksafe BC Board of Directors Approved the
Partners Program in March 2006 with roll out to
all Industries.
8What is a Certifying Partner
- A designation of Certifying Partner is given to
Partners who are responsible for assessing the
quality of health and safety programs in BC, and
issuing Certificates of Recognition to employers.
Worksafe BC administers the Certification process
for Partners.

10Why BCFPA Safety Council
- Board criteria requires that an Industry
Association has an autonomous safety body to
coordinate and administer the Partners program. - BCFPA would like the Food Industry to support a
Safety Council as the Certifying Partner for the
Food Industry and enable the process to move
forward

The cost of developing and maintaining the Safety
Council infrastructure will be 0.06/100
accessible payroll added to the base rate. The
15 rebate would represent Aprox. 0.30 to 0.90
cents per 100. accessible payroll based on a
2.00 and 6.00 base premium rate respectively.
