Background / Motivation

• 3 situations to improve
• Comfort level of employees reflects upon their
  work. (Temperature of environment)
• Those who dont pay the bills, dont care to
  reduce the cost.
• Monitor warehouse or second home when not visited
  often.

Goals

• Need a method to monitor the environment of any
  given building.
• Installation of system must be easy
• Access to data must be readily available
• Cost is not a priority

Solution to Goals

• Small wireless sensing devices
• Platform Mica2 mote
• Sensing Board MTS400
• Temperature, Barometric Pressure, Humidity,
  Light, 2-Axis Accelerometer

Justification

• Placement (installation) very easy.
• Creates mesh network, size of sensing network is
  unlimited.
• Data can be sent to computer for display.
• Power can be controlled to prolong life.

Implementation Approach

• Application for Mica2 mote runs TinyOS, which is
  built in nesC.
• Data transmitted from sensing network to base
  mote attached to computer (via serial) to
  retrieve data.
• Convert Data to engineering units.
• Display on terminal and/or send to central server
  for web display.

Current Status

• Learned and experimented with TinyOS.
• Data retrieval and conversion into engineering
  units from sensing network is complete and
  working for basic sensing application.
• Project Website is running and updated weekly.
