Title: Pixel progress, mechanical

1
Pixel progress, mechanical
  • Now have professional mechanical engineering
  • Eric Anderssen (LBNL Engineering)
  • Major role in the ATLAS Pixel program
  • Developed and built low mass carbon composite
    structures for the ATLAS pixels
  • Built up the LBNL carbon composite shop
  • Eric phasing into HFT as ATLAS effort ramps down
  • Eric will be lead engineer on the pixels and will
be addressing HFT support and integration as well
    as pixels
  • Steve Ney (ARES Corporation, Los Alamos) others
    at ARES
  • Experience with silicon detector support,
composites, working on GLAST while with HYTEC
  • Has worked with our PHENIX colleagues at Los
    Alamos Lab
  • Has started working with us on silicon support

2
Mechanical concept
  • will show latest thinking on this
  • expect changes as Eric and Steve become engaged

4
Pixel placement concept
  • Detector assembly slides in on rails
  • Parallelogram hinges support the two detector
    halves while sliding
  • Cam and follower controls the opening of the
    hinges during insertion and extraction
  • Detector support transfers to kinematic dock when
    positioned at the operating location
  • Hinge structures must be light weight

ladder
