Title: All You Need to Know about Pink Gin

1
All You Need to Know about Pink Gin Gin is one
the most popular and most loved spirits around
the world, including in the UK, the USA, and
Spain, just to name a few. Although gin can trace
its origins to Holland, it has quickly made its
way around the world and into households across
the globe. Gin and tonics, dry martinis, and
Italian Negronis are some of the most popular gin
cocktails. Gin is believed to have been first
distilled in a small Dutch town called Leiden in
the 17th century. It was made by mixing juniper
berries in wine and used for medical purposes.
Today, the tradition of distilling gin by adding
juniper berries and other botanicals to
neutral column-distilled spirits remains
basically the same. Pink Gin - What is it? As
with many distilled spirits and historical
cocktails, it can be hard to pinpoint exactly
when and where the pink gin cocktail first came
on the scene. The general consensus is that the
pink gin cocktail came to be thanks to the
British Royal Navy in the early 1800s. Just like
traditional gin, it was first used for medicinal
purposes. Angostura bitters were given to sailors
while at sea to help combat seasickness. As the
bitters werent very palatable on their own,
sailors in the Royal Navy began looking for ways
to make the bitters taste better, and soon found
that adding gin to the mix made it a much more
enjoyable way to drink them and the pink gin
cocktail was born. Comprised of gin and bitters,
the pink gin cocktail was anything but sweet.
There would have been no ice available onboard in
the 1800s, so the cocktail would have been
consumed at room temperature, and most likely
made with Plymouth navy strength gin. This
specialty cocktail soon spread beyond the Royal
Navy, and quickly gained popularity across
Britain throughout the late 1800s. While
somewhat more palatable to sailors, drinkers of
this rosy cocktail soon began adding mixers and
garnishes, like tonic and lemons, to create an
even better and more enjoyable taste. It is hard
to pin down when, exactly, the pink gin cocktail
evolved into an actual expression of gin. As pink
gin evolved from being just a cocktail into being
a widely accepted sub-category of gin, it has
also evolved to no longer be the sweet drink that
many people associate it with. The pink coloured
gins of today arent sweet at all, but instead
offer a surprising depth of taste and colour
through the use of botanicals in the distillation
process that just happen to turn the gin
pink. Pink gin is distilled by the same process
as traditional gin. After distillation, however,
pink gin is infused with pink or red fruits (like
raspberries or strawberries) and bitters, just
like the original pink gin cocktail recipe. Some
distillers will also add sweeteners or colouring
at this stage to increase the fruitiness of their
spirits. Conclusion Now that you are familiar
with the history and distillation process of pink
gin, you should

definitely give this lovely spirit a try! A great
choice for beginners and enthusiasts alike is
Burleighs Pink Gin. Inspired by Master Distiller
Jamie Baxers trip to Japan, it was distilled
using Burleighs classic recipe and infused with
Japanese cherry blossoms, hibiscuses, rose
flowers, and pink grapefruits, that is soft and
satisfying in the mouth, and ends in a long and
smooth floral finish that leaves traces of
aromatic spice. Another great option is Gordon's
Pink Gin 70cl. This lovely pink gin is perfectly
crafted to balance the refreshing taste of
Gordons with the natural sweetness of
raspberries and strawberries, with the tang of
redcurrant served up in a unique blushing
tone. You can find these tasty gins and
