2Receptionist May I help you, sir? Mr. Haines
Id like to speak to Mr. Taylor. I telephoned him
yesterday and he said that I might call this
morning between 1100 and 1200 o'clock. It's
almost 1200 oclock now. Receptionist What is
your name, please? Mr. Haines Mr. Haines. I
represent the Universal Office Supply
Company. Receptionist (after telephoning to Mr.
Taylor) Mr. Taylor will see you now. His office
is straight down the hall, the third office to
the left. His name is on the door. Mr. Haines
Thank you!
3Mr. Haines passes down hall to the office of Mr.
Taylor, knocks, opens the door. Mr. Taylor Come
in please. Ill be with you in just a moment.
(Finishes dictating letter to secretary at his
side, secretary leaves) Wont you sit down , Mr.
Haines? Im afraid that I have only a few minutes
to give you. We are having a directors meeting
promptly at twelve oclock. Mr. Haines Im very
sorry. I believe Im a little late. (Both men
shake hands) As I told you on the telephone
yesterday, I represent the Universal Office
Supply Company. Since you already purchased one
or two things from us, I thought you might be
interested in knowing about some of the other
products we sell.
4Mr. Taylor I believe we buy our copying paper
and cartridge from you at the present time. Mr.
Haines Thats correct. However we carry many
other items that Im sure you use in considerable
quantity here in your offices. First, let me say
that we are the largest suppliers of Office
equipment in the city. Id like to leave our
catalogue with you. Perhaps you can look it over
at your leisure. Im sure that we can save you
some Money on anything you buy from us. Mr.
Taylor Naturally, we are always interested in
saving ourselves money. Mr. Haines We set all
types of Office furniture, Office lighting
equipment, safes, filing cabinets. Mr. Taylor I
see that you carry a very complete line.
5Mr. Haines We also sell all kinds of stationery
supplies staplers, pencil sharpeners, desk
sets, pens, filing folders. Our prices are
considerably lower than any of our competitors,
and, as I said, Im sure that we san save you
something on any item you buy. Mr. Taylor I
know your company well, but it was my impression
that your prices on most things were a little
high. After all, you people are jobbers or
middlemen, not manufacturers. Dont you often
have to buy from many of the same manufacturers
that we now buy from? Mr. Haines That may be
true. But you buy in small quantities and we buy
in large quantities. Thats an important
difference. On our purchases we get very sizeable
discounts, which we are generally able to pass
along to our customers.
6Mr. Taylor I hadnt thought of it in that way,
buy you may be right. Mr. Haines Our prices,
Mr. Taylor, are from five to ten percent lower
than anyone else in the business. If you
compare the prices in our catalogue with the
prices you are now paying, you will see that I
am right. Id also like to point out that we have
on hand at all times a complete stock of
merchandise ,and can give you immediate delivery
on anything you order. Mr. Taylor Fine! If what
you say is true ,we may be able to do some
business with you. Ill look your catalogue over
and let you know.

my way out. Mr. Taylor Its no bother. It will
be a pleasure. Well, I didnt mean it quite that
way. What I meant to say was Im going in that
same direction and will be glad to accompany you.
