adventures. Our story books are called fiction.

The library is also a tool to find
information. Our information books are called
non-fiction.

7Where are the Books Located?
- At Rockingstone Library we have books for both
elementary and junior high.
This is the elementary non-fiction area. Here we
keep the information books for the younger grades.
8The picture books are located around the
storycorner and are shelved alphabetically
according to the authors last name.
9For instance Jan Bretts books have the call
number E BRE
- They are easy readers and are found in the B
section of the picture books.
10Other fiction books include chapter books for
teens
- Rockingstone Library has a wonderful collection
of youth fiction.
- We have mysteries, fantasies, animal stories,
horror, science fiction, historical fiction,
diaries, adventure stories, short stories,and
lots of stories about people like you.
11Magazines
- Magazines can also be checked out of our
library for one week at a time. -
- We carry the Daily News newspaper, science,
art, geography, - Drama, teen fashion, BMX and Skateboarding
magazines. We also have Cricket, Chirp and
Highlight for the younger readers.
12Finding a Book
- If you want to find a certain book or information
on a particular topic you can - 1. Ask the friendly library assistant
- 2. Look in the general area according to the
Dewey decimal system - 3. Use our online catalogue to search
13The Dewey Decimal System
- Our Non-Fiction books are organized according to
the Dewy Decimal System. Each book is given a
call number and shelved with other books of the
same topic. The numbers run from 001 to 999.

15This is our Reference Section
- Reference books remain in the library. They
cannot be signed out. - Reference books include encyclopedias,
dictionaries, and atlases.
16 Atlas Rack
The Atlas rack is part of the reference
section. Atlases remain in the library.
Atlases are books of maps that contain
information about geography and places in the
world.
17How do I use the Computer Search Station ?
Our library catalogue is now available online at
http//library.hrsb.ns.ca/library/ Thats
right! You can look for books in our library from
any computer with the internet anywhere!!!!
18Simple Search Online
First the computer will ask you to type in a
keyword, title or author.
Next you choose our school library, Rockingstone
Heights Then tell the computer to search for the
keyword, title, author, subject or call
number

20Once youve found the book you want bring it to
the circulation desk and the librarian will sign
the book out to you.
