  • Is the analog broadcasting system used in the
    United States
  • Was established in 1940 by the Federal
    Communications Commission
  • Is responsible for setting television and video
    standards in the United States

  • 1953 The first issue of TV guide was published.
  • 1954 NBC broadcasts the Rose Bowl Parade in color
    on 21 stations.
  • 1956 The first use of videotape is used in
    broadcasting.
  • 1962 Walter Cronkite becomes anchorman of the CBS
    Evening News
  • 1963 CBS becomes the first station to expand
    early- evening news from 15 to 30 minutes.
  • 1964 A live telecast was shown on NBC of the
    summer Olympics in Tokyo. It was the first live
    color TV program ever transmitted to the United
    States by satellite.
