9Field Education at SSA
- Two, year-long (Fall Spring semester) field
placements - Foundation generalist
- Advanced concentration and specialization
specific - Significant time commitment
- Both three days a week (21-24 hours) or
equivalent - Concurrent model
- Must have practice course when in the field
- Pass/Fail course
- Evaluated according to competencies achieved

13Agency Criteria to be Field Sites
- Clearly defined goals and practices compatible
with SSA - Provision of appropriate learning experiences
(foundation generalist or advanced concentration/
specialization) - Ability to support student coursework
- Opportunities for student to contribute to
assessment and improvement of agency - Availability of qualified MSW field instructor
- Program stability
- Staff sufficient for programming needs
- Provision of adequate space, equipment, policies
and support

- Weekends and/or Evenings
- Very, very few options because of required
supervision and learning activities - Must meet same educational requirements as
regular placements - You need to give us day-time hours

15Placement Process
- Review field information materials
- If necessary meet with faculty advisor
- Submit Field Application
- Core Information sheet/Essay/Professional Resume
- Addenda
- Employment-based proposal
- Individualized Option Plan (if doing)
- Strongly Recommended Background clearances
- Due February 13th (Main Campus) or March 19th
(TUH Campus) - Work with Field Education Specialist that is
assigned to you - Identify possible sites or review
employment-based proposal - Note students CAN NOT contact, solicit or
arrange own placement - Referral to an agency
- Interview at agency
- Confirm placement
- Attend appropriate orientations (SSA and/or
agency)

- Field is a significant commitment
- PLAN carefully
- Dont assume you can cram this in
- Field is a course, not a job
- Application is part of an educational and
assessment process - Treat it professionally
- Give yourself enough time
- Be mindful of self presentation
- Be open to various possibilities
