ASG Adaptive Services Grid
Objectives Development of a proof-of-concept
prototype of an open platform for adaptive
services discovery, creation, composition, and
enactment. To achieve its goal, ASG addresses
dedicated scientific and technological issues
making use of the knowledge and expertise of
major European research institutions with
significant contributions from the software,
telecommunications, and telematics industry. ASG
takes advantage from research achievements in the
areas of Web Services and Semantic Web, Grid
computing, Process technology, Agent-based
negotiation, and Software generation.
Work components C-0 Project Management
details the project management structure
involving scientific, administrative, financial,
and dissemination coordination. C-1 ASG
Interface will provide interfaces and
mechanisms to ensure access to and semantic
interoperability across ASG and its users. C-2
Service Discovery Composition will provide
mechanisms to register, discover, and compose
services. C-3 Service Creation will provide
mechanisms for dynamic creation of services,
mainly based on automated generation of software
components according to semantic service
specification and agreements, taking into account
both the functional and non-functional
requirements. C-4 Adaptive Process Management
will provide mechanisms for the enactment,
monitoring and management of service and process
execution in order to ensure collective QoS and
stateful coordination of services in ASG. C-5
Services Grid Infrastructure will provide a
generic open software platform for implementation
of the ASG elements together with the core
computational grid functionality, standard
service interfaces and basic services required
for the development, integration and deployment
of service-oriented applications. C-6 ASG
Development Methodology is responsible for
managing the software lifecycle process of
applications using ASG C-7 Usability and
Demonstration will show how ASG-based services
will provide advanced new services in the context
of specific application domains. C-D
Dissemination will disseminate the results of
ASG.
Architecture
ASG Interface It offers a single programmatic
interface to the application that want to
interact with other ASG middleware services.
Services in ASG are described using WSMO
conceptual model and WSML syntax. Middleware
Services They provide the whole bunch of
middleware services for service discovery,
storing ontologies and metadata management,
workflow planning, work flow enactment, adaptive
process management, service profiling, automatic
service creation, negotiation. Infrastructure
Services infrastructure services leverage the
Grid and web services infrastructure for the
deployment of various services provided by
external service providers. External Service
Providers External providers in ASG can be from
telecommunication telematics, communication and
IT industries. These external service provider
can provide a range of services for the end users
of ASG platform. On the other hand, these service
providers can look for additional service
providers for outsourcing.
ASG Road Map Requirements Analysis ASG starts
with a focused requirements analysis in the areas
covered. All work components engage in this
phase. Conceptual Design In the conceptual
design phase the research issues are properly
described and solutions are being developed.
Depending on the area covered by specific work
components, a variety of different techniques are
used. Architectural and Tools Design Based on
interface design regulations, the conceptual
results developed during the conceptual design
phase are translated into dedicated tools
designs. The term architectural design applies
mainly to work component C-5, where the overall
ASG platform design is developed the other work
components work on the design of the respective
tools. Tool Development Based on the tools
designs, prototypical implementations of the
various tools that will contribute to the ASG
platform are being developed. Tools Integration /
Generic ASG Platform Development Once the main
tools are completed, they will be integrated to
form the generic ASG platform. Tools integration
will be facilitated by common interfaces that
will be developed within C-5 during its
requirements analysis phase (Grid Infrastructure
and Interface Design) Sector-specific Platform
Development Based on the generic ASG platform
and formal scenario specifications developed in
C-7, a sector-specific ASG platforms will be
developed as proof-of concept.
