Finding Used Motorcycle Parts on the Internet
2
  • To find used motorcycle parts on the internet is
daunting. You could search for motorcycle
accessories online or motor parts for sale or
bike accessories, and you would get a whole list
of places. Good junkyards or scrapyards are a bit
hard to find and are even harder to deal with.
Used parts are cheaper, and sometimes you might
find parts some people wouldn't get anywhere.
  • 'Used part' is any part from a motorcycle which
has been removed and is still functioning, so
that it can be reinstalled to continue its
service. It can be a crankshaft or an engine or
    wheels or chains.
  • When searching for a 'used part for a
    motorcycle', don't forget few things.
  • First, the quality of used parts. You should know
what parts are to be bought 'used' or 'new'. The
range of a used motorcycle part can be from, 'New
Old Stock' to 'like-new' to 'paintable' to 'used'
    to 'parts only'.
  • NOS are new parts that were never installed but
purchased by scrapyard to be resold.
  • Like-new parts will be unsullied. It is as close
to a new one, maybe with a very little wear.
  • Paint-able parts have a little damage or
scratches but are still usable, after being
painted or repaired and brought to its original
condition, for example, a gas tank.

Used parts are not new. They are good and fully
functioning, ready to be installed. Parts only,
are non functioning parts. They can be taken
apart and the good parts are used to fix other
parts. Carburetors for example, which are sold as
parts. Parts with short shelf life should always
be purchased "new", like batteries, tires, breaks
etc. Second, warranty. One of the most important
questions one should always ask when buying used
parts is "is there a warranty?" Some items will
never have a warranty. Most places give a
standard one month warranty, but one should
always ask, for it's better to find out before
buying than realising later that the part doesn't
work after you buy it and it doesn't have a
warranty. Always ensure that the warranty is
given in a receipt.
