2Chesnok Red
Chesnok Red regularly wins acclaim and awards as
one of the best tasting baking garlics. It is
very sweet and tasty when cooked. This garlic is
a good garlic for basic cooking. Chesnok Red adds
a sweet garlic flavor without heat to dishes. It
has an distinct smell, more like a roasting sweet
onion than a garlic.
3Deerfield Purple
Deerfield purple is a beautiful purple stripe
variety known for its uniformity, large bulb
size, and outstanding flavor. Bulky heads are
covered in thin, white wrappers that are streaked
with purple. Individual cloves are covered in
blushed-tan skins. Very good. Warm, rich, initial
moderate heat with a very nice garlic flavor with
plum stripes.
4Food Garlic - Soft Neck
Garlic has long been recognized for its potential
to reduce our risk of certain cancers. But only
recently have studies begun to focus more on
cancers of the upper digestive system. The
benefits of garlic intake for decreased risk of
cardiovascular disease have now been extended to
each of the following conditions heart attack
(myocardial infarct), coronary artery disease
(CAD), high blood pressure (hypertension), and
atherosclerosis.
5Garlic Scapes
Garlic scapes start to form a month or so after
the first leaves. They start off growing somewhat
straight and then start curving in circles. Most
gardeners cut the scapes off their garlic plants,
since leaving them on only diverts the plant's
strength and energy away from forming a plump
bulb.
6German Red
German Red is a full-bodied, strong and spicy
garlic that reliably produces large, satiny white
and purple heads. The easy-to-peel cloves are
wrapped in fawn colored skins. A widely popular
variety that sets the standard for true garlic
flavor. Grows particularly well in colder regions
of the country.
