- Only No. 2 pencils are to be used
- Writing prompts are NOT included in the the
Directions for Administration. Need to use a
student test booklet when they read the prompts. - Allow approximately 25 minutes to pass out
materials, give instructions, etc. - Breaks should last no longer than 5 - 10 minutes
and should not extend over lunch or recess. - Discourage random guessing or just mark
something - Each WASL session must be completed during the
regularly-scheduled school day on which it was
begun.
8WASL/ITBS LEP
- LEP Students (WASL)
- LEP students are those who first enrolled in a
U.S. public school during the 2004-05 school
year. They are not required to take the Reading,
Writing, and Science tests. - LEP Students (ITBS exemptions only)
- The student has spent less than one year in
school where English is the language of
instructions - AND
- The student is not proficient in English and
scores at the lowest level by State-approved
Limited Proficiency tests.
NOTE Make sure you have a current LEP/ESL list
9LEP Students
- ESEA, however, requires them to take the
Mathematics WASL. Test scores, including those
in mathematics, are not counted in any way (I.e.,
WASL or AYP results). If they do not take the
mathematics WASL, they will be counted as
non-participants. ESEA requires 95
participation, so be sure to have no more than 5
excluded from testing in mathematics. For
further information contact Pete Bylsma at OSPI
