- The COC provided a letter on April 2, 2008
outlining their support for the bid based on the
following preconditions - Legacy for high performance sport including
facilities, money or volunteer programs included
in the bid process - Bid is developed as the foundation for a future
Summer Games Bid - Winnability
- Government of Canada, Province of Ontario,
Toronto/GGH Community - Support the long-term growth and development of
sport - Provide an opportunity to showcase and promote
our cultural diversity - Build a foundation upon which we could better
compete for other major Games and - Create major sports infrastructure accessible to
all Ontarians and Canadians - People in the area
- May 2008 poll indicated 80 support bid

- BID GROUP
- The Toronto 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games
Bid Corporation is leading the bid for the Games,
with the support of the Government of Canada,
Province of Ontario, the Host City of Toronto and
other key participating municipalities, the
Canadian Olympic Committee, Universities, and
Private / Not-For-Profit Partners. - THE PAN AMERICAN GAMES
- The Pan American Games are awarded by the Pan
American Sports Organization (PASO). PASO is the
continental association of National Olympic
Committees for the Americas and represents one of
the rings in the Olympic Flag. - The Pan Am and Parapan Am Games are held every 4
years and feature 10,000 athletes, coaches and
officials in over 35 sports. There are 26
Olympic sports, 10 PASO sports and 11 Parapan Am
sports in the program.

- DECISION TIMELINE
- The decision on the 2015 Host City will be made
in November 2009 at the PASO General Assembly in
Guadalajara, Mexico. - DECISION PROCESS
- Each of the 42 National Olympic Committee has 1
vote with the exception of those nations which
have previously hosted Pan Am Games who hold 2
votes. There are 10 PASO countries which have 2
votes instead of one. - BENEFITS OF HOSTING
- Toronto will be a great Host and can provide an
exceptional athlete experience, solid government
support and financial commitment, world class
sport venues and Village, ease of travel, a safe,
clean environment, extensive broadcast coverage,
large market, training and development
opportunities for athletes and coaches pre-games
and much more!
7GENERAL OVERVIEW BID RATIONALE
- Ontario has not hosted a major multisport
international event since the first Commonwealth
Games (The British Empire Games) in Hamilton
(1930) - A successful Pan Am Games
- Will promote increased sport participation and
healthy active living - Would support the long-term growth and
development of high-performance Ontario athletes - Make a significant contribution to Ontarios GDP
- Create thousands of jobs
- Could attract approximately 250,000 tourists and
- Bring 8,000 athletes and team officials and an
additional 2,000 athletes and team officials for
the Parapan American Games.

- Unique approach to bidding for major sport event.
- The Province of Ontario created a Bid Secretariat
for the Games within the Ministry of Health
Promotion. - Staffed by the Province with expertise in sport
hosting, communications, infrastructure planning,
project management, and policy planning.
