Title: Poetry by Alison Irvine
1Poetry by Alison Irvine
- My poetry comes from the creative writing
group that I attend at the Greater Easterhouse
Family Forum. - I also write short stories that I find very
interesting, and I feel I have gained a lot of
confidence in myself through the support of my
colleagues.
2Springtime Springtime conjures up for me, Soft
breezes, the humming of The honey bee. New born
lambs gambolling in fields of green, Yellow
daffodils waving anxious to be seen. Gardens of
flowers every colour and hue, Homes cleaned and
polished to look like new. A world reborn of
hope and peace for mankind, These are the words
that spring to mind. Excitement and joy knowing
summer is due, What does springtime mean to you?
3Water and its powers The girl stood on the
hilltop, looking down. Sunset sparkling on the
sea, like jewels on a crown. The lady beside her
she had seen before, It was her mother she lost
when she was just four. Her mother explained
salt water had healing techniques, At this the
little girl looked down at her twisted
feet. Holding on to her mothers hand, They
slowly walked down to reach the sand. Step by
step till the water was near, Her mothers
comforting words the girl had no fear. They
walked into the vast sea, the girl smiled and
looked around, With the good lords permission the
little girl drowned. Suddenly back on the
hilltop again her legs they were straight, She
was free from all pain. She looked at her mother
they both laughed out loud, And embracing each
other they disappeared in a cloud.
4Confusion Slowly, very slowly, I opened my
eyes, White blurred faces floating around
me. Where am I? Whats happened? Why cant I
see? The faces became clearer, Why are they
standing around my bed? I hear voices from a
distance, Im so sorry, shes dead. . Poor thing
I thought, who can it be? Then realised, their
talking about me. No, No, Look, Look, I cried in
vain, My voice silent ,my throat wracked with
pain. Suddenly a gentle hand on my brow, Shes
slowly coming back to us now, Painfully my eyes
opened wide, My family sitting by my side. An
affectionate voice with eyes so deep, Welcome
back he said, Youve been a long time asleep.
