What are they?

• Homophones are those words that have different
  spellings and different meanings, but the same
  pronunciations.

• night/knight
• break/brake
• beach/beech
• see/sea
• foul/fowl
• stare/stair
• read/reed
• hear/here

Lets take a look...

• The knight rode his horse only at night.
• I see the sea from my window.
• The whole hole was filled with dirt.
• The hare has brown hair.
• Does a moose put mousse in his fur?

So why do we need to know about homophones?

• We can learn about homophones to

• to speak precisely
• to read with understanding
• Learn how to spell words correctly when we are
  writing
