03/14/2007 - The ceasefire declared in August
between Israel and Lebanon was holding even
though each side had complained that terms of the
end of hostilities were not carried out, the UN
said Wednesday in a progress report.
The ceasefire was declared on August 14,
following more than a month of fierce fighting
between the Israeli Defense Forces and Hezbollah
fighters on Lebanese territory, mostly in the
south of the country. A UN peacekeeping operation
and thousands of Lebanese troops have been
monitoring the ceasefire in southern Lebanon.
