Ultimate Scaife Flatness
  • FEATURES
  • Lapped scaife results in better surface finish
    and symmetry on polished diamond.
  • Optimizes the production, by better surface
    contact with the stone.
  • Ultimate solution for perfectly Flat scaife
    surface (accuracy 0.005 mm).
  • Very low scaife-reconditioning cost (between Rs.
10 to Rs. 14 per Diamond Impregnated Scaife).
  • Controlled material removal - results in more
number of reconditioning per scaife - increasing
    scaife life.
  • by at least 50.
  • A low cost solution with a very short payback
    time.
  • No dedicated operator required, reducing
    production cost.

  • OPERATING INSTRUCTION
  • For Diamond Impregnated Scaife
  • Clean the scaife with water.
  • Mount the scaife on the machine spindle. Make
sure that the scaife is not fixed with very high
tightening torque. A gentle tightening is
sufficient for the process. A very high
tightening Force can result in distortion of
    scaife.
  • Place the lapping ring on the scaife, with
lapping serration (slots) facing the scaife.
  • Switch ON the lapping machine. The Scaife, along
with the lapping ring will start rotating.
  • Apply a small amount of lapping media to start
lapping action. Keep watching the scaife surface
occasionally, to monitor the progress. Apply
lapping media (paste), if required. Stop the
process, if the surface of Scaife is found free
of polishing lines. (The lapping process will
last for 1 to 5 hours depending on the depth of
    damaging groove on the scaife).
  • On finding the scaife surface reconditioned,
remove the lapping ring, and the subsequently,
    the Scaife.
  • Wash the scaife, with cleaning media.

  • OPERATING INSTRUCTION
  • B. For Cast Iron / Steel Scaife Clean the Scaife
    with water.
  • If the damaging groove lines are deep, take a
small surface cut on a lathe machine, keeping the
cut surface parallel to the back surface.
  • Mount the scaife on the machine spindle. Make
sure that the scaife is not fixed with very high
tightening torque. A gentle tightening is
    sufficient for the process.
  • Place the lapping ring on the Scaife, with
lapping serration (slots) facing the Scaife.
  • Switch ON the lapping machine. The scaife, along
with the lapping ring will start rotating.

process, if the surface of scaife is found free
of polishing lines. (The lapping process will
last for ½ to 1 hour depending on the depth of
machining groove on the scaife and the concavity
/ convexity of the cut surface).
  • On finding the scaife surface reconditioned,
remove the lapping ring, and the subsequently,
    the Scaife.
  • Wash the scaife, with cleaning media.
  • Note It is necessary to carve / sand blasts the
Scaife surface to hold the diamond powder during
    the polishing process.

  • SCAIFE MOUNTING PROCEDURE PRECAUTIONS

After lapping the scaife (and necessary carving
/ sand blasting of normal scaife), the scaife can
be mounted on the open top mill spindle.

  • SCAIFE MOUNTING PROCEDURE PRECAUTIONS
  • A. For scaife with three leveling holes
  • Clean the back face of the scaife the mounting
face of the drive spindle. Check for any dent
    mark / damage.
  • Place three level pads on the drive spindle face
    below the leveling screw.
  • Place the scaife on the spindle such that the
leveling screws rest on pad inside the dimple.
  • Secure (Loosely tighten) the scaife on spindle
    with the center bolt.
  • Check the scaife face run out with the magnetic
    stand dial indicator.
  • Adjust the leveling screw, till the run out of
the scaife is achieved within 0.005 mm (½ point
    on 0.01 mm dial indicator)
  • Tighten the scaife firmly with the center bolt.
  • Check the balance of the scaife. If required add
    the balance weight.

  • SCAIFE MOUNTING PROCEDURE PRECAUTIONS
  • Check the level of the level plate using straight
/ knife-edge / or the magnetic stand dial
indicator. If required correct the same.

  • SCAIFE MOUNTING PROCEDURE PRECAUTIONS
  • B. For scaife without leveling holes
  • Clean the back face of the scaife the mounting
face of the drive spindle. Check for any dent
    mark / damage.
  • Place the scaife on the drive spindle face. Do
not lock the center screw yet.
  • Check the scaife face run out with the help of
    magnetic stand dial indicator
  • If the face run out in not within 0.005 mm rotate
the scaife w.r.t. Drive spindle, while checking
    the scaife run out.
  • If in no position, the run out is within this
permissible limit of 0.005 mm, the scaifes back
    face may be corrected,
  • a. Either by grinding the back face, parallel
to the front face on a grinding machine.
  • b. Or, can be manually corrected using a
scraper or emery paper, by a technician.

  • SCAIFE MOUNTING PROCEDURE PRECAUTIONS
  • Take proper care if the option b is resorted
to. The scaife face should properly contact the
drive spindle face. The face contact should be
    more than 75.
  • On achieving desired face run out. The scaife can
be securely tightened using center bolt.
  • Check the balance of the scaife. If required add
    the balance weight.
  • Check the level of the level plate using straight
/ knife-edge / or the magnetic stand dial
indicator. If required correct the same.
