My Recent Trips

• 10 Days (Jan 06) 20 Days (Feb 07)
• United flies direct to Ho Chi Minh City (better
  known as Saigon)
• Stayed in Saigon Long Xuyen Drove to Hue by
  bus
• Each trip spent 3-4 days in Hong Kong

Vietnam

• Joined the World Trade Organization (2007)
• Growth averaging 7-8 percent in (2000-2005)
• Inflation appears to be 8-9 (government target
  6.5)
• Vietnam has 84MM people, (100MM in 2015)
• 20 of the population lives below poverty line
• Per capita income is only 638 a year
• Median age is 26 (aka, 50 lt 26 yrs old)
• Life expectancy is about 71
• Country is fairly small, only slightly gt New
  Mexico
• California is 36MM people about 3x the land
• 672 people occupy each km2 (438 in NJ, 84 in CA)

Winnetka-Northfield Rotary Club International
Project

• Mission Winnetka-Northfield Rotary Club, a Full
  Life, Inc., Library of Vietnam Project are
  engaging local community groups to help raise
  funds for unfortunate children of Vietnam to lead
  them out of poverty with shelter and education.
  The initial project is to furnish a school
  library and create educational/vocational
  programs for the Khai Tri orphanage in An Giang,
  Vietnam.
