- AREA, a priority interest National Research Body
established on 1978 under the vigilance of the
MIUR-Ministry of Education, University and
Research, manages and develops AREA Science Park,
the leading multi-sector Science and Technology
Park in Italy - AREA Science Park hosts 83 high-tech Enterprises
and RD Labs engaged in Life Science,
Environmental Technologies, New Materials,
Nanotech and ICT - At AREA Science Park, 26 Enterprises and
Laboratories operate in ICT and in related
fields - About 1900 people are working within the two AREA
Science Park premises near Trieste and in the
three additional poles located in the FVG Region. - Specific Expertise in the field of Innovation
Management Financing - AREA acts as an innovation driver for SMEs
operating inside its premises as well as in the
FVG-Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and in a larger
geographical extent (the regional SMEs having
service connections with AREA are about 3.000) - AREA is very active in promoting the innovation
diffusion in the FVG Region and abroad, also
through the participation to several national and
international projects such as - Innovation Network of competence centers aiming
at transferring innovation to the productive
regional system - Innovation Relay Centre - IRENE, European network
of 71 nodes exchanging industrial technologies - About 35 of the Enterprises located in AREA have
been incubated by AREA - The valued services provided by AREA to the start
up Enterprises includes direct financing and
other facilities such as high standard offices
and labs offer, partnership building, fund
raising.

- Barcelona Activa is the Barcelona City Councils
Local Development Agency, its tool for designing
and implementing the policies on employment, new
business creation and innovation. It is a
joint-stock company using municipal capital,
basically engaged in presenting projects in the
various calls for tenders from competent
Governments (the European Union, the Spanish
State and the Generalitat de Catalunya) to carry
out programmes which are in line with its
corporate purpose. Barcelona Activa have become a
referent at local, national and international
level as regards local development policies
(specially on business creation), a benchmark
endorsed by the recognition it has obtained
(worldwide good practices, according to the
United Nations Habitat programme, example of
excellence in the creation of companies according
to the European Commission, or Urban Innovation
award from Eurocities). His total annual budget
is about 24 M .

Management - Financing

- Barcelona Activas incubator was created 20
years ago, being one of the pioneers in Europe.
It hosts every year more than 60 small innovative
companies operating in different fields but with
a stress put in IT (60). The survival rate is
84-85 4 years after the creation. - Barcelona Activas Technological Park (Parc
Tecnològic Barcelona Nord) is the transformation
of a 10 years old Technological business center
(Fòrum Nord), and it hosts about 45 companies
every year. - We offer to this companies different services
aiming to enhance their management capabilities,
their growth strategy, their internacionalisation,
their innovation, their financing. Our tools are
consultancy, specific training, mentoring,
agreements with universities, business
cooperation and contacts with key actors in the
market and in the finances (seed capital
companies as Barcelona Emprèn SCR, with 18
capital owned by Barcelona Activa- and several
business angels networks). - Besides this tenant companies, we have a network
of more than 300 other companies that use to
participate in our programes. Most of this
companies are also innovative and participate
specially in our financing programs (v.g. Ready 4
Growth programe) and in the cooperation and
networking activities. - Regarding to new business creation, Barcelona
Activa gives intensive support to more than 1000
projects every year, 15 willing to deal on IT.

- The Barcelona City Council and the Catalonia
government are very interested in the development
of an strong industry related to space
activities. In Barcelona Activa we are focussed
in using this project to start a strategy of
strengthen the sector among the innovative start
ups,.We have now 3 companies working in space
activities, and other dealing indirectly with
space tecnologies. - PILDO Labs The company activities cover
consulting and development services offering
world-class solutions on aeronautics (GNSS- SBAS/
EGNOS and GBAS, ATM, Environment and Economics),
Remote Sensing- Earth Observation (Radar
Altimeter, algorithm design, operational coding
and data interpretation), critical and IT
computing, science and technology divulgation. - Altamira Information a company that specialises
in the analysis and processing of images from
space, bringing together a team of remote sensing
experts with wide experience in SAR imagery
acquired at the French National Space Agency
(CNES) and the European Space Agency (ESA). - Draco Systems has solid and extensive
experience in digital and analogue electronics,
image processing, system control and robotics. On
the space field they work on Instrumentation,
Smart cameras(distance measurements, docking,
movement detection) and telemetry (vital
constants monitor, local and remote)Other
Companies SITEP, Deneb Latinoamericana, Aradoxa
Solutions - We are specially interested in detecting more
companies interested in using these technologies
in their IT services. For the moment we have
organized some seminars about this subject and we
have started to work with BAIE the association
in Barcelona enhancing this industry where the
key players are represented.
