Mathematical Sciences
- Description of the Programme
- This is a full-time one-year degree by
examination and minor thesis. The purpose of the
programme is to give to students who have an
excellent primary degree in a mathematical
discipline the necessary knowledge and competence
to study and understand current research
literature in at least one are of the
mathematical sciences. - Structure of the Programme
- The programme consists of 90 credits of
work 60 credits of taught modules and 30 credits
assigned to the writing of a thesis and to active
participation in a research seminar. - The student must take 60 credits of taught
modules from the graduate modules in Actuarial
Science, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics,
Statistics and Theoretical Physics - subject to
the approval of the programme director. -
12School of Mathematical SciencesMSc in Mathematics
- Description of the Programme
- This is a one-year (12 months) full-time
programme. It consists of six 10-credit taught

14Claude Shannon Institute for Discrete
Mathematics, Coding and Cryptography
- The Claude Shannon Institute will support
research in coding theory and cryptography, and
all related areas of mathematics, and create a
network of mathematicians, engineers, computer
scientists and industry partners - We are now accepting applications for fully
funded PhD students in the areas of coding
theory, cryptography, and discrete mathematics.
This includes algebra, number theory and
algebraic geometry. - For further details of our generous funding
package, our research projects, and personnel,

students to enter the MSc in Mathematical Physics
or Mathematical Sciences. Students normally take
half the third year courses and half the fourth
year courses in Mathematical Physics. This
material is equivalent to that covered by a Joint
Honours student taking Mathematical Physics.
