4WHY CERTIFICATION?
5Why is this being done?
- Changes in the focus of medical education over
the past few years - programs have needed to review their education
vs. service issues - more structure and formality has been brought to
the process of education through the development
of a more codified curriculum - Unintended consequences
6Why is this being done?
- Recognition of the need for Program Directors and
Coordinators to be full time to manage the
requirements of core competencies, accreditation
and work hours regulations - Need for training administrators to have and
maintain a high level of knowledge, skills and
abilities to manage the day-to-day activities of
the training program - Create a national standard
7Its a Journey
- Focus on the intrinsic vs. extrinsic rewards
- Recognition for achieving/meeting national
standards - Receiving national certification is
acknowledgement of your professionalism and
knowledge - To be a GME Training Program Administrator is to
have a career path. ACGME standards and
guidelines will continually change - Professionals Do Not Stop Learning. They stay
abreast of the changes and maintain their skills!
