    (hardware software)
  • Mobile / Remote assets present unique challenges
  • Management of software licenses and potential
    contract non-compliance
  • Complexity in patch management and software
    upgrades
  • Vulnerable Desktops
  • Protecting desktops from virus/spyware/malware
    outbreaks

    failures and notebook theft
  • Deployment of security patches to protect
    desktops from security vulnerabilities.
  • Limited Resources
  • Limited IT budgets
  • Competing business objectives
  • Remote and distributed support requirements

Coexistence and Integration
  • Desktop manager can be used for mobile or
off-promise assets. These are difficult to manage
using the network based solutions and
implementation/support costs can be an order of
magnitude above on-premise assets. In certain
circumstances  users use networks that are not
under the control of the corporate IT department
(Starbucks, hotel, or home ISP) which makes using
    these solutions even more difficult.
  • Additional point solutionsOLB, data encryption,
    firewall management, anti-malware management and
software usage are all functions that Desktop
Manager provides that have limited or no
counterparts in the network based solutions. They
are integral to a complete desktop management
solution. A must for either compliance or best
    practice needs.
  • Dell Data Direct (D3) integration is not
available in the other solutions.D3 data from
Dells back end systems provides a feature that
is not available in any of the other solutions.
This feature provides full lifecycle management
from Factory to decommission of asset.
  • Help Desk integrationDesktop manager is
integrated into the SalesForce help desk. This
allows all of the data to be instantly accessed
while in the same application. This significantly
reduces the help desk time, a critical
measurement for these services such as PC
    Workspace.
