(No Transcript)
3
Triage Area
  • First clinic workstation encountered by clients
  • Triage may occur at both clinic site and
    transportation site

4
Purpose of Triage
  • Identify individuals who may have smallpox (fever
    and rash)
  • Direct these individuals away from the main flow
of the clinic to an area for medical evaluation

5
Purpose of Triage
  • Identify individuals who have had contact with
someone who has smallpox (but who are not
symptomatic, i.e. do not have fever and rash)
  • Direct these individuals away from the main flow
of the clinic to an area where they will be
vaccinated and receive other special counseling
    and services

6
Media Will Assist With Triage
  • Press release will be issued prior to the opening
of clinics directing anyone who believes they may
have smallpox to see their medical provider
  • Press release will specify that ill persons (with
smallpox) should not come to vaccination clinic
  • This will minimize the amount of triage necessary
    at the clinic site

7
Triage Area will utilize signs
  • Examples
  • If you think you may have Smallpox (have a fever
and rash), go to the Illness Evaluation Area (or
    follow the yellow arrows)
  • If you are not ill but suspect that you may have
been exposed to Smallpox, go to the Contact
Evaluation Area (or follow the red arrows)
  • All others, proceed forward to receive your forms
    (or follow the green arrows)

8
Triage Signs
  • Will have arrows pointing individuals in the
    appropriate direction
  • Will need to be prepared ahead of time or on the
    first day of clinic
  • Will need to be prepared in other languages as
    appropriate for that clinic population

9
Triage Staff
  • Direct persons to read the signs as they enter
    the clinic
  • Assist persons having difficulty reading the
    signs (non-English speaking, low literacy)
  • Direct those persons to the appropriate place in
the Forms Distribution Area where they can
    receive assistance, as needed

10
Off-Site Triage
  • Post sign that reads
  • If you are ill, have fever and rash, DO NOT
BOARD THE BUS, see your health care provider.
  • Sign will need to be in languages appropriate for
    clinic population.
