  • Ounce Equivalent (oz. eq.) label was generally
    used for labeling alternate forms of meat.
  • For consistency, the oz. eq. unit of measure
    will accompany all forms of M/MA components.

  • Meat/Meat Alternate must be offered as part
    of the reimbursable meal in minimum quantities
    each day.
  • M/MA must be offered as part of the main menu
    item. Other M/MA must be counted.

  • Schools that do not serve a daily choice of M/MA
    menu items may not serve the same form of M/MA
    more than 3 times per week.

  • The M/MA component can be supplemented to meet
    the full requirement.
  • Example hot dog (1.5 oz eq) and chili (0.5 oz
    eq) will equal 2 oz eq for the 9-12 grade group.

M/MA Tofu and Soy products
  • Tofu and Soy-based products may credited toward
    the reimbursable meal.
