• SEXUAL VICTIMIZATION refers to any situation in
  which a person is deprived of free choice and
  forced to comply with sexual acts.
• Examples street hassling, stalking, and obscene
  telephone calls to rape, battering, and incest.
• SEXUAL HARASSMENT unwanted sexual attention
  from the display of pornographic photos to the
  use of sexual obscenities to a demand for sex by
  anyone in a position of power or authorityare
  ILLEGAL.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT ON THE JOB

• 2 forms (not in book)
• quid pro quo harassment person in authority
  makes unwanted sexual advances.
• Hostile or offensive environment harassment
  supervisors or coworkers engage in persistent
  inappropriate behaviors that make the workplace
  hostile, abusive, or otherwise unbearable.
• SEXUAL HARASSMENT ON CAMPUS
• More than half of female undergraduates
  experienced some form of sexual harassment.
• Nearly half male undergraduates.

SEXUAL VIOLENCE ON CAMPUS

• 1 of every 4 to 5 female students is raped over 5
  years.
• A campus w/ 6000 coeds averages 1 rape/day every
  day for the entire school year.
• 35 rapes for every 1,000 women
• Women twice as likely to be stalked
• 3 to 6 of men had been raped by other men
• 25 men had been sexually assaulted

• Nonvolitional sex sexual behavior that violates
  a persons right to choose when and with whom to
  have sex.
• Sexual Coercion sexual activity forced upon a
  person by the exertion of psychological pressure
  by another person.
• i.e. peer pressure, taking advantage of desire
  for popularity, threatening to end a
  relationship, getting someone intoxicated,
  stimulating a partner against his or her wishes,
  insinuating an obligation based on time or money
  one has spent.

Rape sexual intercourse with an unconsenting
partner under actual or threatened force.

  attempt or completed rape and/or physical

  experienced an attempted or completed rape in the

Types of Rape (not in book)

• Anger rape total stranger, motivated by hatred
  for rejection hes suffered from women. Dont
  find sexually gratifying
• Power rape premeditated desire to dominate and
  control victim. Use it to give them power. Find
  it sexually gratifying but not their primary
  motive.
• Sadistic rape premeditated, bondage, torture,
  or sexual abuse. Use power and anger and subject
  victims to humiliation or torture. Motives are
  complex.
• Gang rape 3 or more rapists. Fraternities or
  athletic teams. Motives are excitement and
  camaraderie to share the experience.
• Sexual gratification rape impulsive attack
  primarily for sex. Acquaintance/date rapes fit
  into this category.

ACQUAINTANCE OR DATE RAPE

• 9 in 10 rapes victim had a relationship
• 25-60 college men have engaged in some form of
  sexual coercion.
• Factors that lead to date rape
• socialization into an aggressive role
• acceptance of rape myths
• view that force is justified in certain situations

WHAT TO DO IN CASES OF RAPE

• 1. Call someone, friend, or rape crisis center.
• 2. May not have to talk w/ police if you go to
  hospital
• 3. DO NOT BATHE OR CHANGE CLOTHES
• 4. Talk w/ Dr. about STDs or pregnancy.
• 5. Dont blame yourself.
