4Austrian Perspective
- Many of the children Ive seen were broken by
their parents, which was the German-Austrian
mentality. Break the will. They didnt want to
create an individual. (Leamer 15) - Arnold Schwarzenegger

11Arnold The Politician
12Political History

against Cruz Bustamante and was elected with 49
of the vote - Ran for re-election in 2006 against Phil
Angelides
13- To those critics who are so pessimistic about
our economy, I say Dont be economic girlie
men! - Arnold Schwarzenegger, at the Republican
convention
"If they don't have the guts to come up here in
front of you and say, 'I don't want to represent
you, I want to represent those special interests,
the unions, the trial lawyers ... if they don't
have the guts, I call them girlie men."
Arnold Schwarzenegger, describing Democratic
lawmakers in California
14- Arnold has had this whole career as governor of
California, complete with a big early run of
legislative victories, a huge and consummate
defeat, a bottoming out in the polls, then a
comeback and a reelection and a record of
accomplishment thats embarrassing. - - Tom Junod, Esquire
15- Perspective
- This is a common perspective for people living
outside of California, especially other
Austrians - Having a body-building, appearance-obsessed
actor who can barely speak English properly as
Governor of California is a joke - Refutation
- Just because youre an actor doesnt mean you
cant be a good politician (ex Reagan) - Arnold made it his goal to be the best
bodybuilder in the world - When he creates a goal, he follows through with
it and does his best
16- I didn't leave bodybuilding until I felt that I
had gone as far as I could go. It will be the
same with my film career. When I feel the time is
right, I will then consider public service. I
feel that the highest honor comes from serving
people and your country. - Arnold Schwarzenegger
- I believe with all my heart that America
remains 'the great idea' that inspires the world.
It is a privilege to be born here. It is an honor
to become a citizen here. It is a gift to raise
your family here, to vote here, and to live
here. - - Arnold Schwarzenegger
17- Perspective
- Many people believe that
- Although Arnold admitted that he had consumed
steroids and smoked pot, he is not a proper role
model as Governor - Refutation
- If people with troubled childhoods were forbidden
from running for public office, there would be no
one in office - Example George W. Bush was arrested several
times for DUI before he ran for president - In Arnolds defense, the steroids were legal at
the time he did them - By admitting his past, he has shown that he has
nothing to hide and that he is honest
18- Arnold could do things and say things
that would have merited the most onerous
consequences for anyone else. He could turn the
malicious into the kindest sentiment. - (Leamer 33)
- - He shares the same quality as Phineas from A
Separate Peace
19Cannabis is not a drug. Its a leaf.
20Arnold (with steroids)
Arnold (without steroids)
21- Perspective
- He is viewed by many in California as leaning
more toward the Democratic party, although he was
elected as a Republican. He is also held
responsible for the all problems of California. - For example He was elected to revive the state
from the deficit of 16 billion under Gray Davis,
but it has since increased to 20 billion - Refutation
- He has tried to be a centralist, not favoring one
side or the other (he is a republican but CA is a
democratic state) - With the current conditions of the US, including
the War in Iraq, inflation, and the increasing
gas prices, it is near impossible to turn any
economy around by following the strict guidelines
for either party
22- Perspective
- There have been many accusations of sexual
misconduct against Arnold - During the 2003 campaign for governor, 6 women
came forward with allegations that Arnold touched
them inappropriately
Refutation Arnold admits that sometimes he does
behave badly, but that most of the stories were
merely attempts for attention and were false

24- Strength does not come from winning. Your
struggles develop your strengths. When you go
through hardships and decide not to surrender,
that is strength. - - Arnold Schwarzenegger

Schwarzenegger and other sources, one will come

and the pounds of muscle is a personable,
relatable human being.
