3What is the difference between a plan and a
strategic management plan?
- A Plan is what we want to do.
- An SMP sets out not only what we want to do but
how were going to do it. - Example shopping

But are they strategic management plans? We
would now like to share with you the steps used
in developing a strategic management plan.
5Step 1- Initiate and agree on a Strategic
Planning Process
- You have to identify the benefits for having a
- strategic management plan for your
life/organization - and the key people to be involved in the drawing
up - of the SMP.
6Step 2- The Identification of the Organizational
Goals
- You must identify what goals you want to achieve
in your strategic management plan. - to be a goal it must be
S pecific, M easurable A chievable R ealistic T
ime bound
7Step 3- Develope a mission statement
- The mission statement sets out how you will
achieve your goals.
8Step 4- You must do a SWOT exercise
- The SWOT exercise helps you to look at your
- Strengths
- Weaknesses
- Opportunities
- Threats
9Step 5- the establishment of a vision statement
- The Vision statement will clearly say where it
is you want to be having successfully carried out
your strategic management plan

management plan
