2Who can borrow and how to borrow materials
- Murray State University
- Students
- Undergraduates can have up to 50 items for 28
days - Graduates can have up to 50 items for 60 days
- Faculty/Staff
- Can have up to 150 items for 120 days

check-out - Items can be renewed once online through
RACERtrac (log on to Patron - Items can be renewed on the phone by calling the
Circulation Desk at 762-4990 - 5 day grace period for overdue items

4Harvard University Regular Borrowers
- Graduate Students
- Books circulate for 28 days and be renewable 5
times before the items is returned to the
circulation desk - No limit on the number of books, common sense is
advised - Overdue fines are .50 per day for regular stacks
books reserved per half hour - If recalled for reserves or another user, due
date is changed to 7 days (minimum loan period is
14 days) 2.00 fines are charged after the due
has changed - Two overdue notices will be followed by a bill
for replacement of the book - HDS students with excessive fines or book
replacements charges will be reported to the Dean
for Student Life - Graduate students from other school who have
excessive fines or books replacements may be
denied from borrowing privileges

- Books are due twice yearly (Feb. 10th and Sept.
10th), renewed 5 times before returned to
circulation desk. The item can be renewed more
than 5 times at the circulation desk - If recalled for reserves or another user, the due
date is changed to 7 days rather than the 14 day
loan period - No limit on the number of books, but common sense
is advised - Courtesy renewals reminders are sent within a
week after due date. Books must be returned
within 60 days of the due date or a bill for the
book replacement is issued
7Special Borrower Policies
- Note Special Borrower Cards are available to
persons who fall into one of the following
categories - HDS Alumni
- Area clergy
- Members of BTI committees with valid
Identification cards - Widener Special Borrowers
- Persons proposed in writing by HDS faculty
members or senior staff - Participants in HDS summer programs(cards expire
on the last day of the program)

- Each library in the WSU has its own circulation
system and desk - Materials may be checked out
- Circulation staff checks in and re-shelves books
as returned - Recall books that have been requested by others
- Search for missing items
- Maintain the Reserve Collection
- Oversee fines and monitor the security system
11Checking out materials at WSU
- To check out an item have your valid WSU I.D at
circulation desk - After book have been checked out you are aloud to
go through security gates - Faculty members who have teaching or research
assistance should have a proxy card at the
circulation desk to check out materials for them - Applications for non-university library user
privileges are available at each librarys

- The library circulation system is operated by
computer for most materials - By using access terminals you may check to see if
the items has been checked out - Instructions on how to use the online catalog are
available at the circulation desk - Some of the items such as, journals are checked
out manually - If an item cannot be found check the computer or
ask at the circulation desk
12Loan Periods at WSU
- Regular loan period is 30 days for most books for
undergraduates students, staff and one semester
for graduate students and staff - Books requested from EWU through Griffin and all
Cascade items have a 21 days period - All materials except cascade items, check out are
subject to recall after 2 weeks if another user
is requesting that material - Circulation period for some material such as,
journals are determined by that library
- Always make sure to ask when the due date is
because each materials circulation period varies
13Renewals at WSU
- If material is needed beyond the original due
date you must renew the material - Materials may be renewed at a WSU libraries
circulation desk by phone or in person - You may renew materials online through your
Griffin catalog or by viewing your records/
renewals/pin button - Cascade EWU items may be renewed once through
Griffin
14Requesting and searching Items at WSU
- Use the request item button in Griffin Catalog
and the request this item link to statewide
Cascade catalog and then you can have the item
delivered to any WSU Library of your choice - Click the request item button when viewing a
record - You must enter your name, WSU I.D , Griffin Pin
to use online requesting - When you are done requesting items you must
select a pickup location
- By searching the catalog click the Search Cascade
link on the introductory Griffin screen or click
Search Cascade button - Both the Institutional Holdings Display the
Detailed Holdings Display screens in Cascade
providing the Request this Items - Enter your name, WSU I.D , Griffin pin , select
a WSU libraries pickup location to enter a
Cascade Request
15Recalls for material already checked out
- If a book has been already checked out you may
ask the circulation staff to recall it for you - You can also recall a book via Griffin
- When you are in Griffin and at the record you
want click Request Item button and complete the
form - This recalls the book- which sets in motion a
request to the other person who has the item to
return it to the library so someone else can use
the item - A recall can be requested any time, but you may
keep borrowing books up to a minimum of two weeks - Once a book has been recalled the borrower has
five days to return the material to the library
so the requester can borrow the book - One the book is returned the requester is
notified waiting at circulation desk - Books that are returned by the new due date have
higher than normal fees
16Snags or missing materials at WSU
- If an item cannot be found or checked out report
it to the circulation desk - A snag will do a systematic search for the
missing item by the members of the library staff - If the item is found the requester will be
notified - If the item is no found a decision is made at the
end of the search regarding replacement - Since the library is too large to have inventory
on a regular basis, the snag is an important
method for helping to determine which materials
are missing
17Material on reserve at WSU
- Materials requested by instructors for assigned
class readings are kept on reserve - Files are arranged by course will tell you what
is available and give you the with which the
item should be requested - The loan periods are shortened, fine rates are
higher and material cannot be recalled because of
high demand for these items
18Overdue Notices at WSU
- Library material become overdue if not returned
by the due date - An overdue notice is sent to the person as a
reminder - It is your responsibility the return the borrowed
material on time whether or not an overdue notice
is received or not
19Fines at WSU
- The fine system is used by the library to
encourage the accessibility to the material - Different materials have different check out
periods and fine schedules - These loan periods and fine schedules are
published in the WSU Library Policies, Rules and
Regulations which is available at the circulation
and Reference desks - Fines are accrue during all hours the library is
open including holidays - The fine invoices are mailed directly to the
borrower - Payments may be mailed or in person to the Office
of the Controller, WSU, Pullman, WA 99164-1039 - Any questions or problems about a particular fine
may be directed to the circulation desk from
which the material was borrowed from
20Guest Users at WSU
- With the Washington Administrative Code
(504-40-020), Washington State residents who
dont go to WSU may use Libraries Resources,
services and borrow library materials - Individuals 16 years or older can apply of the
off-campus borrowers card at any WSU Library
Circulation Desk - Acceptable forms of ID that can be used for
signing up for a borrowers card include
identification form, a federal agency, state
agency, or another academic institution - Guest Users may request WSU library materials to
be delivered to a WSU Library Circulation Desk by
filling out a Recall Request Card and submitting
it to the circulation desk - Guest users may not check out materials that have
been already been checked out
21Security System at WSU
- The library has an electronic security system
that has been installed so the material can be
properly checked out when they leave the library - Once the material is checked out circulation
attendant allows it to pass through the gate - Material that hasnt been checked out will cause
the alarm to sound and the security gate will be
locked - Sometimes a non-library material will trigger the
security gate - Whatever the cause of the alarm to go off all the
books and packages will be examined to make sure
the materials have been properly checked out - If a non-circulating material such as, journals
are found, a written report of the incident will
be written up and filed with the Student Affairs
