1
Rule Separate 2 adjectives before a noun.
  • By Courtney Smith
  • Block 1

2
What are Nouns?
  • A noun is a person, place, or thing. A few
examples of nouns are the words- boy, fish,
    paper, and car.
  • Proper nouns are special nouns that are
capitalized. For instance, all names and
important places or buildings are capitalized.
    Examples Publix, Coral Shores, Courtney
  • Common nouns are just regular nouns that dont
    get capitalized.

3
What are Adjectives?
  • An adjective is a word that describes a noun.
Usually an adjective is a color, condition or a
characteristic of the noun it describes. The
adjective usually comes before the noun. Some
examples of adjectives are the words- yellow,
    old, new, ugly, short.

4
Tips
  • Usually when you have two adjectives together
that are age or color you dont put a comma,
    because you dont need it.
  • I have a old green backpack.
  • (no comma needed)

5
The And Test
  • If you can put a and between the two adjectives
    then you need a comma.
  • Example- The small, translucent purse went
    through the wash by accident.

and
6
The Reverse Adjective Test
1
  • If you can reverse the two adjectives before the
noun, then you need to put a comma.
  • Before the reverse test I'll drink cool
    refreshing orange juice.
  • After I'll drink refreshing cool orange juice.
  • You need a comma for this sentence because you
can reverse and it still makes sense.
  • Fixed Ill drink cool, refreshing orange juice.

7
Test (cont.)
2
  • Before the reverse test The new light bulb shone
    brightly.
  • After The light new bulb shone brightly.
  • You dont need a comma for this sentence because
when you reverse it the sentence doesn't make
    sense.

8
Practice Write the word that needs the comma
after it and insert the comma.
  • The shiny new wakeboard fell off the boat on a
    sharp turn.
  • The small fast boat went back to get the
    wakeboard.
  • The blonde skinny boy jumped off the boat and
    swam for the wakeboard.
  • While the boy was swimming, he saw a huge Nurse
    Shark.
  • The wakeboard finally found its way back to the
dry safe bottom of the storage bin on the boat.

9
More Practice

    shocked everyone on the boat.
