Title: Business Case for TECHtionaryTM
1Business Case for TECHtionaryTM
Executive Summary TECHtionary is the Worlds
First and Largest animated largest see, not just

2BackgroundCustomers are faced with an array of
increasingly complex technologies such as
IP-VPNs-Internet Protocol Virtual Private
Networks, MPLS-Multi-Protocol Label Switching,
WiFi, WiMAX, VoIP-Voice Over Internet Protocol,
IP-CENTREX, PIM-Protocol Independent Multicasting
(video streaming), to name a few. In addition,
security threats and the need to understand
firewalls, IP-Sec-Security, and NIDs-Network
Intrusion Detection add to the complexity of any
network. Federally-mandated content blocking for
schools are also becoming common place in
business. Channel partners are faced with the
immediate and critical need to understand not
just data but complex data technologies such as
VPNs with video streaming for sales training to
assist customers in designing cost-effective and
scalable systems. New employees, others
changing positions and executives need ways to
understand all the technologies, acronyms and
concepts not to only communicate more effectively
with one another but faster. TECHtionary
bridges the gap between technical and business
decision-makers.Legislators, regulatory
agencies, press, industry and Wall Street
analysts expect more and require more in-depth
explanations of technology in order to make
informed decisions about telecommunications and
IT products/services. That is, business strategy
is being directed by the financial sector with
little or no working knowledge of the
products/services involved.Analysis and
DiscussionIn discussions with customers, they
want to understand how the technology works
before they will buy the product. They also
expressed the need for tools to help them help
others in their organization understand the
technology. For example, school district
IT-Information Technology managers want
information to help the principals and teachers
understand their role in new technology as well
as better ways to explain to School Board members
why the technology is needed. Mortgage company
managers want ways to more effectively compete by
using internet services which link them with
Realtors and buyers. The corporate office of a
express temporary service uses an IP-VPN during
the day for payroll check processing and added
video streaming at night for internally-produced
streaming video for franchise-owned sales
training classes.Channel partners are faced
with increased competition from other service
providers and often lack the resources to train
themselves and their staff. Channel partners
have expressed strong desire for more flexible
training tools that can be used by themselves,
staff, consultants, customers and most
importantly, the customers decision-maker. That
is, the contact person is, in an increasing
number of cases, not the final decision-maker.
Customers seek assistance from consultants,
financial audit committees, industry resources
and external training (seminars, university
classes) to make informed decisions. These
managers then present recommendations to School
Boards, CEO/CFO executives, branch managers and
others. The real decision-makers do not even
know what they need to know to make effective
decisions for their organizations. According to
one customer, My job often requires me to make
decisions in areas where I have no expertise. I
always turn to TECHtionary for a better
understanding of the technology issues we face.
What follows is supporting comments, remarks,
magazine reviews and examples of how TECHtionary
is helping an increasing number of organizations
improve their ROI-return on investment in the
technology they are about to acquire or have
installed.

building the largest animated library on
technology, people are realizing that not just
that knowledge is power but understanding
technology easily and rapidly is the real power,
noted Thomas B. Cross CEO of TECHtionary.
Viewers have commented that if a picture is
worth a 1,000 words, adding animation multiplies
that many times over. We also add new and
emerging technologies everyday, something you
cant do in print, Cross added.
5Here are some recent comments regarding
TECHtionaryTom Cross does some excellent work
at TECHtionary. To further the plug, advertising
on his site or licensing his library are two ways

6Here are some recent comments regarding
TECHtionary"Congratulations on reaching a new
pinnacle in educational excellence. In my
opinion, TECHtionary.com is the most
comprehensive online visual reference-learning
system available. TECHtionary.com is the
greatest tool I have ever encountered to help us
know more about what we need to know more about .
I am increasingly involved as an expert witness.
I have used TECHtionary.com to educate my clients
who do not have any idea what the technology is
all about such as VoIP, WiFi and other emerging
technologies such as WiMax. In a recent case
about a cable cut of an optical fiber, no one
really understood what the issues were all
about. I recently used TECHtionary.com to bring
the law suit to closure faster saving my client
thousands of dollars in attorneys fees and
lengthy litigation. In addition, unlike books
and even most web-based systems, there is
something new on TECHtionary.com nearly everyday
and we all need to learn something new
everyday. Paul C. Daubitz President -
ATI-Telemanagement (past President of the
Society of Telecommunications Consultants)
www.ati-telemgt.comThere are three primary
benefits to TECHtionary 1 - In regard to
customer acquisition, complex concepts like
Simplified Relocation, Outlook Integration, SIP,
VoIP and many others, are made simple and easy to
understand when TECHtionary VoIP Technology
Sales Animations are utilized. These animations
reduce the number of days in the evaluation
process and dramatically reduce the effort needed
to produce sales. In addition, we have found
that happy customers are more likely to refer us
to other businesses and provide sales for us. In
addition, as a Master Channel Partner,
TECHtionary User guide and installation
animations provide the means to train agents
rapidly and easily. 2 - In regard to the
enormous costs associated with customer support,
its not the 1st call or even the 2nd call that
causes support costs to skyrocket. It is the
continuous changes in customer staff turnover,
new-hires and increasingly non-English speaking
employees that break-the-bank. Supporting all
these types of customers rapidly evaporates
profit. The TECHtionary Phoneset installation
animations you have done on Cisco, ShoreTel, NEC,
Polycomm and others save enormous amounts of time
because support calls dont come in
one-at-a-time. We get large bursts of support
calls forcing too many callers to end up in the
queue with long wait times or leaving voice
mail. The TECHtionary Phoneset animations
provide a pictionary approach to many common
support questions for customers who speak any
language. This reduces the number and length of
calls saving us thousands and gives us the
ability to scale our business cost-effectively
while maintaining even increasing customer
satisfaction. 3 In regard to customer
satisfaction, customers are looking for a vendor
who is still responsive after the sale. New
features can be added or changed and as new
services emerge TECHtionary animations can be
easily updated to meet new challenges. Thank you
for involving us in your efforts and please share
this with anyone youd like. Mark Sharp CEO

7Channel Partner CommentsAccording to Mr. Doug
Hanson - CEO of Evolve, "Customers often call
with lots of detailed questions. I send them to
TECHtionary which explains it faster than I ever
could. They call back ready to buy as they
understand what they are looking for. I also
need more and more technical information to help
my customers understand increasingly complex
carrier/manufacturer products and services.
TECHtionary does that and a lot
more."TECHtionary has been critical to helping
our agents educate themselves, their customers,
and ultimately decision-makers. I urge you to
support efforts to expand TECHtionary as this
industry is constantly changing, we need this
more than ever. Herb Levitin, President CCNA
POWERCOM - Master Agent"TECHtionary helps our
customers to be more in touch with what we have
to offer to them. We have found TECHtionary to
be key element in the decision-making process
considerably reducing the sales cycle. I have
received e-mail from folks who have visited our
site saying that they find TECHtionary to be an
incredibly useful tool. In addition, several of
our employees at Oxford Networks use TECHtionary
to learn about SONET and other fiber optic
related technologies. TECHtionary is helping to
keep our technical personnel ahead of the power
curve and it is saving us money by providing what
we need to know immediately saving truck rolls.
I recommend it as a necessary link for any
networking-telecom-IT website." Matt Jolly -

www.revnets.net "TECHtionary.com is as often as
good as any sales person. Sometimes it's better
because its also available to customers 7x24 and,
most importantly, to the real decision-makers in
the organization. TECHtionary also opens up all
kinds of new concepts and allows viewers to
explore complex issues over and over again until
they get it. TECHtionary is a great tool for TP

gives customers a reason to come to your web

Senior Director for Local Services dealing with
various independent representatives from around

comprehensive tool, TECHtionary has demonstrated
the ability to eliminate confusion, reduce
errors, improve self-confidence, and, most of
all, avoid the need for representatives to delay
their sales activity while awaiting explanations
from the home office. Efficiency is a major
asset to possess and I have found TECHtionary a
resounding success in this application. Feel free

TelecomI wanted to let you know that
Techtionary is the BEST informational tool I have
ever seen. The animations are superior to the
Telecom Dictionary, and gives a complete
understanding of how technology works. You just
cant get that kind of understanding and

that just cant explain how something works and
rather than saying, let me read you something,
they say CHECK out this URL. The customer knows
that they are dealing with a high tech and very
informed rep. Thank you again and I look forward
to hearing from you soon. Have a great day!

10End User CommentsAccording to Cindy Johnson,
Director of Technology for Lee County Schools in
Sanford, North Carolina, The TECHtionary website
immediately appealed to me because I often lack
the knowledge I need to make wise decisions for
the district. Our technicians have also had
limited access to training. They often have
learned while on the job. The website provides
immediate, easy access to information they may
not have otherwise. When I have requested
additional information to be placed on the site I
received prompt, positive feedback. The
animation and easily understood text make the
site valuable for learners at all levels. The
site is easy to maneuver. A great deal of time
is not invested in learning how to use the site.
Novice Internet users are not frustrated with how
to get information and advanced users still find
something to learn. I am writing to support the
TECHtionary.com web site. TECHtionary has been
an invaluable tool to our school system.
Although my title is Director of Technology, I am
an educator with the training that is typical for
teachers and administrators. She added, My
job often requires me to make decisions in areas
where I have no expertise. I always turn to
TECHtionary for a better understanding of the
technology issues we face. This practice has
kept our small school system from making costly
and time consuming mistakes. The most recent
example of this occurred during the spring. We
are replacing telephone systems in four of our
schools. It is sad to note that today's high
schools and middle schools need a greater level
of security than schools in the past. After a
careful examination of TECHtionary I changed my
recommendation for these sites. TECHtionary not
only provided me with information to make a wise
decision, it gave me a visual tool to help me
convey our needs to those in authority over me.
TECHtionary staff also added terms to the web
site on the rare occasions that I've not been
able to find exactly what I need. I've passed up
no opportunity to share TECHtionary with my peers
across the state. Technology has never been
adequately funded in North Carolina schools.
Other Directors of Technology have welcomed this
site.Yes I teach Cisco 1-6 right now. I help
out a little with the A students when their
teacher isn't there, but I'm full time with the
IT division. That's why I'm glad to see this
sight so I can give this to my students so when
they ask about something instead of me always
telling them I can tell them to look it up.
Since in the real world I won't be there all the
time to bail them out. So thanks again.
Dan!!Your web site is stunning! I am a

and engaging to the users! Thanks so much for
letting us see and use this. I know you will get
all the business you can handle with the interest
you will create with this site. I've never seen
anything so clever and intuitive on the web,

maintain student interest. I personally would
recommend this product to any company or
individual looking to understand technical
concepts not completely explained in the
textbooks. For those teaching certification and
those pursuing certification, TECHtionary is not
a study guide but explains thousands of concepts
found in nearly every study guide. There are too
many concepts that are barely comprehensive in
tens of text pages but TECHtionary explains via
animation in seconds saving the student and

NACSE's role is to provide vendor-neutral

TECHtionary is so critical because learners can

DirectorIndustry Associations using TECHtionary
This is to provide a recommendation concerning
the use of TECHtionary. The CTA-Colorado
Telecommunications Association has utilized the
TECHtionary product on the homepage of its web
site for more than a year. As you know,
TECHtionary provides definitions for specific
telephony and technology terms but does so with
the use of graphics, charts and visuals in a
manner that makes the product uniquely useful and
educational. We have found that TECHtionary
helps our member company employees gain a better
understanding of technology and its ever-changing
terminology particularly for those with an
interest in learning about next generation
networks. It has also been useful to our company
members in aiding them to provide explanations to
their own customers about their products and
services. TECHtionary is a product that could
help provide a better understanding of industry
terms and applications for your members and
customers just as it has for the membership of
the Colorado Telecommunications Association.
Barry L. Hjort - Executive Vice President - CTA
As President of the Telecommunications Agent
Association I understand the plight of telecom
and data agents, systems integrators and
VAR-Value Added Resellers. I also understand the
challenges faced by carriers, service providers,
and hardware manufacturers. Each is caught in a
conflict balancing customer need with products,
services and professional guidance. There is no
easy answer in today's multi-vendor,
multi-protocol and complex user situation when it
comes to everyone to understand the technology
thats up for purchase. Understanding the
problem is the easy part. Presenting solutions
and considering all the issues and most
importantly, educating all the players is the
hard part. Even if money was not the issue, and
it usually is, finding the time, venue and topics
make it even more problematic that people would
walk away with the answers they are looking for.
That is why TECHtionary is such a great solution.
The animated-tutorials provide user-friendly
explanations in terms that everyone can
understand. TECHtionary also allows agents and
all the relevant parties to go to "class"
whenever from anywhere. Now I don't know that
TECHtionary is the ultimate answer, not sure what
is but it is certainly the best thing there is
today. That is why a link is on every page of

also why we are producing TelecomTechTalks

Review (BCR) is the leading publication in the
telecommunications industry. We use TECHtionary
because it's an indepth reference source and
incredibly user friendly."Fred S. Knight -
Editor/Publisher - Business Communications Review
-- www.bcr.com"TECHtionary combines the power
of the Internet, the PC and multimedia to help us
instantly comprehend communications technologies
from every angle. From the telecom novice to the
technically astute, the enormous power and value
of TECHtionary is evident immediately to the
user."Jared Bazzy, Managing Web Editor,
Telecommunications(R) MagazineTECHtionary is
referenced on more than 6,800 web sites around
the world (Source Google) with users from more
than 50 countries everyday accessing the terms
and tutorials. Here is an unsolicited review of
TECHtionary in Lockergnome Technology News for
the Worlds Most Curious Users . My mother
started this habit of jumping up and down
whenever I start talking too technical about her
computer. She says she has to jump because she is
trying to catch all that information that is over
her head. Now this is an extreme case, of course,
but all of us, at one time or another, have felt
that something technology-related was over our
heads. Wouldn't it just be a lot easier if there
WERE an online dictionary related to technology?
Well, there is now! TECHtionary is an online
technology dictionary that doesn't just give you
the definition of a technology term in most
cases it will show you an animation to help you
learn what the term means. There have been times
when someone has rattled off an acronym and
because I knew the device by its actual name, I
was lost. That's no longer a problem, now that I
can look it up. Oh, and by the way? Now my mother
doesn't have to invest so much money in sneakers
with ankle support.http//www.lockergnome.com/is
sues/daily/20020930.html The animated
definitions are what makes Techtionary a learning
resource bordering on actual fun. I clicked on
the "New" square, found "Dial-Stepper" and wound
up watching a brief video from "Dial M for
Murder" that shows the Dial-Stepper, uh,
stepping. It's kind of a Learning Adventure, this
Techtionary concept. You don't know exactly what
you're going to get when you ask for a
definition. And it's that mystery, that potential
for surprise, that makes the whole thing as fun
as it is informative. What I found particularly
instructive in playing with this is that the
balance between information and entertainment is
in itself quite an art. If the information isn't
comprehensive and comprehensible, the
entertainment really isn't that entertaining.

the information presented even more engaging. As

decision makers. TECHtionary is one of those
rare sites worthy of attention." Cindy

From new employees to top level executives that

within a technological theory. TECHtionary is an
amazing tool that offers immediate visual

15 TECHtionary Services OverviewTECHtionary is a
Macromedia Flash animated information resource.
With new terms everyday, TECHtionary has more
than 2,700 total terms/tutorials with an
estimated 1,000,000 Macromedia Flash animation
effects on telecommunications, data
communications, networking and internet
technologies. TECHtionary is available online or
by CD-ROM that can be accessed anytime-anywhere
to learn how things work, view real photos and
understand whats-what. TECHtionary is an ideal
tool for vendors with technologies in search of
customers. Customers are besieged with the
accelerating pace of technologies. Our own
assessment of the dot-bomb failure is that
technology providers, including carriers, failed
to educate their staff and customers on the
applications of their products/services.
Customers want to understand the technology
before they buy not after. They also want to buy
from a person who understands how all the
technologies fit together including the vast
array of legacy systems. TECHtionary
