2HOW ALCOHOL-RELATED COLLISIONS ARE DEFINED, 2006
- Definition
- One or more of the following conditions are met
in VCRS/ARIES - Alcoholic Beverages is listed as the primary
factor of the collision, - Alcoholic Beverages is listed as a contributing
circumstance in the collision, - Any vehicle driver or non-motorist (pedestrian,
pedalcyclist) involved in the collision had a BAC
test result greater than zero, - The collision report lists apparent physical
condition of any vehicle driver or non-motorist
involved as had been drinking, or - A vehicle driver is issued an Operating While
Intoxicated (OWI) citation.

- Pickups, SUVs and motorcycles appear to be
over-represented in alcohol-related collisions
more likely to produce fatal and non-fatal
injuries - Those at highest risk males between ages of 21
and 39 TARGET ALCOHOL-RELATED PROGRAMS TO THIS
GROUP - Indiana counties test, on average, about ½ of
their fatalities for alcohol LEARN STRATEGIES
OF SUCCESSFUL COUNTIES AND REPLICATE - BAC test results corroborate legal intoxication
ASSURE UPDATED TEST RESULTS ARE ENTERED INTO
VCRS/ARIES - Prime time for alcohol-related collisions is
weekends, from 6pm Friday to 6am Monday FOCUS
