4Importance of daily health regimes in Ayurveda.
- Dinacharya means the appropriate daily
regimes which should be followed the Ayurveda
way, for a physically, mentally and spiritually
healthy life.
5Dinacharya
- Right from waking up in the morning till sleeping
at night, all the daily routines have been given
utmost importance in Ayurveda.
6AWAKENING FROM SLEEP
- There is a well known proverb Early to bed,
early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy and
wise.
7According to Ayurveda -
- One who is desirous of a long, healthy life
should wake up at the time of BRAHMA MUHURTA - Brahma Knowledge. Brahma muhurta is the best
time for gaining knowledge - Brahma muhurta - means approximately 1-1/2
hour before sunrise

9- BRAHMA MUHURTA - atmosphere is fresh, pleasant
and the RIGHT time to attend to the natural urges
of the body like Bowel and Bladder - While waking up one should analyze whether the
food eaten the previous night is digested or not.
10- Evacuate your bowels
- You can train yourself to do this at this time
- If your digestion is normally sluggish drink a
glass of warm water - Do not avoid answering the natures call
- Do not strain too, if you do not have the urge.
- After this wash your hands clean and splash some
clean water on your face

12When to brush teeth?
- Ayurveda mentions that teeth must be brushed
- In the morning
- And also after eating food.
13What to use for brushing ?
- According to Ayurveda twigs of the following
herbs can be used to brush teeth - Arka
- Vata (Banyan tree)
- Khadira
- Karanja
- Arjuna
14- Selection of the twig for brushing teeth should
be done on the basis of season, dosha, taste of
twig. - Nimba (Neem) is best among bitter herbs
- Khadira is best among astringent herbs
- Madhuka best among sweet herbs
- Karanja best among pungent herbs
15- The twig should be devoid of branches and knots
- Every day a new twig should be used
- One end of the twig is chewed to form a brush
- Brushing should be done in the vertical direction
(Top to bottom) without injuring the gums. - In absence of twigs powders of herbs like
Triphala, Trikatu Trijatak can be used

20TONGUE-SCRAPING(Jihwa-nirlekhana)
21Tongue-scrapper
- Tongue scrapping should be done with the help of
a smooth, soft-edged, 10 angula long metallic
scrapper made of gold, silver or iron.

- Removes bad taste from mouth
- Eliminates bad odour of mouth
- Reduces swelling of tongue
- Relieves stiffness of tongue
- Enhances the sense of taste.
- Thus helps maintain oral hygiene
23GARGLING (GANDUSHA)
- Gandusha means filling the mouth with a certain
fluid, without rinsing movement of the mouth and
holding it until the eyes start watering.
24Fluids used for Gargling (Gandusha)
- Fluids like Sesame oil, honey, milk, meat soup,
rice gruel, herbal decoctions etc. are used for
gargling depending upon hot or cold conditions
and also the dosha predominance. - On daily basis Gargling is usually done with
sesame oil, or meat soup.

- excession secretion of Kapha in mouth
- improper perception of taste

28MOUTH-WASH (Kawal)
- Mouth wash (Kawal) is very similar to Gargling
(Gandusha) - The fluids selected and used for mouth wash and
its benefits are also similar to those of
gargling. - The only difference is that in this method the
movement of rinsing the fluid in the mouth is
done
29COLLYRIUM (Anjanam)
- EYE is the most important among all the sense
organs. - Hence COLLYRIUM is applied to the eyes to
protect it from various eyes diseases. - It is useful to maintain the health of the eyes.

33- One eye should be widened with one hand and the
collyrium should be applied with the other hand
with the help of a metallic stick (shalaka) - The collyrium should be applied from the inner
canthus towards the outer canthus

37Purpose of Medicated Smoking?
- Some part of the increased vitiated Kapha in the
head region is instantly eliminated by inhalation
of Medicated herbal smoke (Dhumapana) - Hence it is suggested following collyrium
application.
38What to use ?
- Dhuma-varti A Cigar specially prepared from
paste of various herbs - Dhuma-netra Instrument specially designed to
hold the varti.
39Method of Medicated smoke inhalation (Dhumapana)
- Sit in comfortable posture
- Smear one end of Dhuma-varti (cigar) with ghee or
oil - Ignite it
- Place it in the Dhuma-netra (instrument)
- Inhale smoke through one nostril and expel from
the mouth - Inhale by mouth and expel from mouth again
- Exhaling smoke from nostrils can be harmful for
vision of eyes

50- Head is considered to be one of the most
important parts of the body. - Nose is the entrance to the head. Therefore
medicine used in the form of Nasal
drops/instillation cures the diseases of the head
when administered through this route. - NASYAM means administration of medicated oil or
ghee through the nostrils
51- There are different types of Nasal instillations
described in Ayurveda depending upon their
effects, dose, medicines used etc. - But Nasal drops indicated as daily regime is
called Pratimarsha Nasya - This type of Nasal Instillation is devoid of any
complications.

- A herbal medicated Oil specially indicated for
Nasal instillation on a daily basis is ANU
THAILAM - Anu thailam is specially conducive to spreading
into minute channels of the body.

duration - Since the site of Vata is the skin, Abhyanga
