Factors for sportsmanship
  • Influence/amount of referees/umpires
  • Amount of rules being enforced
  • Consequences of winning or losing
  • Any others?

5
  • People responsible for leisure activities often
seek recognition and respectability as sports by
joining sports federations such as the IOC, or by
    forming their own regulatory body.
  • In this way sports evolve from leisure activity
to more formal sports relatively recent
    newcomers are BMX cycling, snowboarding,
    wrestling, etc.

6
  • The formal regulation of sport is a relatively
    modern and increasing development.

7
Children in sports
  • Problems of child sports
  • Lost its child-centered focus, meaning less
emphasis on the childs experience and more
emphasis on adult-centered motives, such as
    winning.

8
Problems of child sports
  • Suffering from the actions of over-invested
    sports parents, who maintain unrealistic
expectations and fail to behave in a way that
promotes the development of their own child and
    others.
  • Failing to provide sufficient background
checks, training and evaluations for coaches who
are so instrumental in the youth sports
    experience.

9
Problems of child sports
  • Focused on early sports specialization leading
to burnout, overuse injuries and a
    hyper-competitive atmosphere focused on travel
team participation at an ever-younger age.

10
Problems of child sports
  • Lost the voice of the child, who is
participating in sports for his or her own goals,
which experts say include fun, friends, fitness
    and skill development.
