- When PowerPoint is launched it creates a new
file, the new file is called a presentation.
- Presentation is made up of a series of slides
- When a new project is created it is empty (no
slides).
3Adding New Slides
- To Add a New Slide, click on the Insert pull-down
menu and click on New Slide
4Slides
- When a new slide is inserted, select from the
different layouts.
- A selected layout can have items deleted or added
to it
- The predefined layouts have placeholder text in
them. Simply highlight the text and replace it
with your own text.

- Organizational Chart

6Entering Text
- Clicking on the placeholder text and begin
typing.
- Can copy and paste text from documents.
- Can change the font type and size by highlighting
and changing the drop-down box.
7Saving Presentation
- Saving a PowerPoint presentation is done the same
as any Word or Excel document.
- Click on File Save As and the Save As Window
is displayed. Browse to the location where the
file should be stored and click on the Save
button.

- Normal

- Slide Sorter
- Slide Show
- Views can be selected via the View pull-down menu
or the toolbar at the bottom of the PowerPoint
window

- Displays the slide with a summary of slide text
to the left
10Outline View
- Slide text pane is larger
- Thumbnail sketch of slide format.

- Shows the slide as it will appear during the
slideshow (almost)
12Slide Sorter View
- Allows for easy reordering, and copying of
slides.
- Shows transitions, timing and sounds

14Different Printing Options
- Slides (one slide per page)
- Handouts (multiple slides per page)
- Notes Page (one slide per page with notes printed
at bottom)
- Outline (Text only printed)
15Selecting Printing Format
- After Selecting Print, a dialog box appears.
- Click on the drop-down menu under the Print what
label.
- Select Print Format
16Changing Look of the Slide
- Format Background to change the color
Click on the down arrow and click on more colors
17Apply or Apply to All
- Apply or Apply to All buttons appear when
changes.
- Apply makes the change to the side being edited.
- Apply to All makes changes to the entire
presentation.

- Format Apply Design Template to use
pre-designed background pattern and graphics.
Select a design and click the Apply button.
19Choosing Designs or Background Colors
- Make sure that there is sufficient contrast
between the background and text.
- Avoid the designs that have things moving on them.

- Bad Background colors can make it really tough on
your audience.

- Via an auto layout slide with a graphic
placeholder
- Cut and paste a graphics.
- Click on Insert Picture From File and browse
to the file location.

- Double click on button to access PowerPoint
ClipArt Library.
- Use Clip Art sparingly

- The clip art gallery is divided into categories.
- Select a category
- Click on the graphic to be added.
- Click on Insert in Presentation

- Click on Insert Picture From File and browse
to the file location.

- Using an auto layout design with a clip art.
- Delete the clip art box
- Copy the graphic to be added onto the clip board
- Paste the graphic onto the slide.
27Resizing Graphics or Textboxes
- To resize the graphics or textboxes, click on the
object and move the corner of the box to make the
object larger or smaller.
28Viewing the Presentation
- With the Presentation open, click on SlideShow
click on View Show. This starts the show from
the first slide.
- View a specific slide within the presentation and
click on the Slideshow view button to start the
show at that slide.
29Adding Transitions
- Transitions Between Slides
- Transitions are the method one slide replaces
another in the presentation.
- There are 40 different transitions in
PowerPoint.
- Keep the number of transitions per presentation
to a minimum.
30Adding A Transition
- Click on the slide show pull-down menu.
- Click on Slide Transition.
- Click on the drop down box and a list of the
possible transitions appear.

- When the transition is selected, it will be
previewed using the dog graphic.
- Click the Apply to All button to have that
transition apply to all the slides in the
presentation.
Click Apply button and the transition applies to
current slide.
32Displaying Spelling Errors
- To have spelling errors displayed, click on Tools
Options. Click on the Spelling and Style.
Uncheck the box next to Hide Spelling Errors.
