Lidocaine Injection
  • Provides local anesthetic.

Sterile Gloves
  • Maintains sterility for the placement of the
    central line.

Initial Puncture
  • Use the catheter provided.

  • Ensure you have a good flash back.
  • Remove needle.
  • Leaving only the catheter.

Threading the Stylet
  • Straighten stylet end.
  • Place onto end of catheter.
  • Advance with your thumb.

  • Remove stylet case.
  • Remove catheter.
  • Leaving only long stylet in vein.

Tissue separator
  • Thread tissue separator onto stylet.
  • Advance through skin.
  • Provides larger access.
  • Remove tissue separator.
  • Leave stylet in place.

Main catheter
  • Thread main catheter onto stylet.
  • Feed into vein.

Remove Stylet
  • Place pressure at puncture site.
  • Remove stylet.

Caps
  • Keep pressure on puncture site with gauze.
  • Place caps on all ports.

Home Stretch
  • Placement almost complete.
  • Caps on all ports.

Clean
  • Clean area to remove excess blood.

Flushing
  • Flush all ports to ensure good flow.

Sample collection
  • Check sample flow at all ports.
  • Flush after.

Suturing
  • Place needle through anchor hole provided.
  • Peirce skin.
  • Thread suture through needle.
  • Remove needle.
  • Both sides.

Suturing
  • Make loose loops ensuring less tension on skin.
  • Place a couple of ties on each side.

Blue Caps
  • Place blue caps on all ports.

Bandaging
  • Place Telfa pad over catheter.
  • Apply roll gauze around neck.

  • Cover gauze with vet wrap.
  • Use tape to secure lines.
