5What Complications resulting from Dehydration
Exist?
- Complications of dehydration occur because of
fluid loss. - Kidney failure is a common occurrence as
dehydration progresses, the volume of fluid in
the intravascular space decreases, and blood
pressure may fall. - Decrease blood flow to vital organs like the
kidneys - Any organ with a decreased blood flow has
potential to fail - Decreased blood supply to the brain may cause
confusion - and even a coma
- If enough organs begin to malfunction, the body
itself may - fail, and death can occur.
- When the fluid loss overwhelms the body's ability
to compensate, blood pressure falls (hypotension)
and the worker can go into shock, in which organs
in the body may not get enough oxygen to function
and will fail.
6Complications of Dehydration cont.
- In heat-related illness, the body's attempt to
cool itself by sweating can - cause dehydration to the point that muscles go
into spasm - (heat cramps).
- Often muscles are over-stressed in high heat
environments - arm and leg muscles spasm from lifting and
moving heavy objects or - equipment
- workers leg muscles can fail
- As fluid loss increases, the worker may be so
dehydrated that there - isnt enough liquid to sweat and heat
exhaustion or heat stroke will - occur.
- Heat stroke is a true medical emergency and 911
or the - Emergency Response System must be activated
- immediately
7Complications of Dehydration cont.
- With dehydration, electrolyte abnormalities occur
since important - chemicals are lost from the body through sweat.
-
- Health Care Providers need to be aware of the
fluid and electrolyte - balance in the dehydrated individual and be
certain to monitor - electrolyte levels as rehydration occurs.
- Examples of symptoms caused by abnormal
electrolyte levels - include
- Muscle weakness due to low potassium levels
- Heart rhythm disturbances due to either low or
high potassium - Seizures
- Medically It is reasonable to expect that
dehydration will take - hours to slowly correct the fluid deficit to
allow the electrolytes to redistribute - themselves appropriately in the different spaces
in the body. If rehydration is done too - slowly, the individual may remain hypotensive and
in shock for too long. If done - too quickly, water and electrolyte concentrations
within organ cells can be negatively - affected, causing cells to swell and eventually
die.
8Opportunity to work together
- Personal observations have helped us identify
areas of serious concern given adverse heat
conditions. - Contracting Cos have ever growing corporate
diversification and projects that can be defined
where extreme heat conditions are a real concern.
- A very real need for
- employee hydration.
9H3O
10H3O Advantages Scientifically formulated to
quickly restore fluids, deliver lasting energy
and protect the body. Heres why its truly a
better product
IU is a measure unit as per international
agreement specifying the biological effect
expected with a given dose.
Trehalose, also known as mycose, is a natural
alpha-linked disaccharide formed by an a, a-1,
1-glucoside bond between two a-glucose units. It
can be synthesised by fungi, plants, and
invertebrate animals. It is implicated in
anhydrobiosis - the ability of plants and animals
to withstand prolonged periods of desiccations.
11Product Development
- After the initial conception stage, our RD team
of developers and scientists use the most
advanced technologies available in the
formulation and development process, continually
testing for taste, efficacy, and creating overall
quality. - Our Scientific Affairs Group
works closely with RD in
establishing the appropriate
ingredients to ensure safety,
dose and claims
substantiation
through support of clinical data.
