Wounds

• A wound is any break in the continuity of a
  tissue of the body. It may either be internal or
  external.

Types of Wounds

• Abrasion It results from scraping the skin
  thereby damaging it. Bleeding is limited to
  oozing of blood. Abrasions result from falls,
  skinned knees or handling of rough objects.

• Incisions caused by knives, metal edges, broken
  glass or other sharp object. May cause extensive
  bleeding. May damage muscles, tendons and nerves.

• lacerations These are jagged, irregular blunt
  or tears in the soft tissues. Bleeding maybe
  rapid and extensive.

• Puncture These are produced by bullets and
  pointed objects like pins, nails and splinters.
  External bleeding maybe minor but the puncturing
  object may penetrate deeply and caused severe
  internal bleeding.

• Avulsion It is the separation or tearing of
  tissue from the victims body caused by animals
  bites, motor vehicle accidents, guns and
  explosives.

  from forceful trauma that injuries an internal

  results from a forceful blow to the skin and soft
  tissue, it leaves the outer layer of skin intact.

  or tearing underlying structures.

  may happen even in small wounds. Infection is the
  entrance, growth and multiplication of germs in
  an wound.
• Dressing and bandages are important in first aid.
  It also helps prevent infection. Dressing or
  compress is a sterilized gauze or sterilized
  cloth placed directly over the wound to control
  bleeding, absorb blood and secretions of the
  wound. It also help to prevent infection.
