General Info
  • World War Two began in 1931 and lasted until
    1945.
  • There were two alliances in the war in the South
    Pacific
  • The Allies in the South Pacific consisted of the
    U.S., China, and others.
  • The Axis in the South Pacific consisted of Japan.

Japan Joining axis
  • The three main Axis powers are, Nazi, Germany,
    Fascist Italy, and Imperial Japan where part of a
    military alliance on the signing of the
    tripartite pact on September 1940.
  • The term axis powers because it took the name
    after the Tripartite Pack was signed by Germany,
    Italy and Japan on September 27, 194o, in Berlin,
    Germany
  • The Axis was defeated in world war 2. Italy
    signed an armistice with the allies in September
    1943. Germany and Japan surrendered to the allies
    in may, 1945.

Pearl Harbor
  • Pearl Harbor is a harbor on the island of Oahu,
    Hawaii, west of Honolulu.
  • Pearl Harbor had a surprise attack against the
    Japanese at the US navel base at pearl harbor.
    On the morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941 which
    resulted to the world war 2.
  • The purpose of the strike was to protect the
    Imperial Japan's advance into Malaya and the
    Dutch east Indies for there natural recourse such
    as oil and rubber.

Wake Island
  • December 8, 1941, the same day as the attack on
    Pearl Harbor was the battle of wake island.
  • Japanese losses exceeded 700 killed, they lost
    two destroyers, one submarine and twenty four
    aircrafts.
  • One of the American prisoners escaped the
    massacre, and carved the message 98USPW5-10-43 on
    a large coral rock near where the victims had
    been hastily buried in a massive grave.

Bataan
  • The capital of Bataan is Balanga City. It is a
    province on the peninsula of Luzon.
  • This battle is famous because it is the last
    stand the American and Philippine solders before
    the Japanese took over.
  • On April 9th 70,000 captured American and
    Filipino soldiers were forced to march more than
    a hundred kilometers from Bataan to Tarlac.

Mc Authur Flees
  • Douglas Mc Arthur ( Jan. 26, 1880-April 5, 1964)
    was an American general and field marshal of the
    Philippine army.
  • He was designated to command the proposed in
    evasion of Japan in Nov. 1945, and when that was
    no longer surrender on September 2, 1945.

Iwo Jima
  • This event took place for 35 days from February
    19th to March 26 1945.
  • The Japanese had a strategy, called No Japanese
    survivors, they had planned on not surviving the
    fight but before they die each solider would have
    to kill about 10 men.
  • The event was fought entirely beneath the
    ground.
  • -1,500 rooms were dug under ground, into
    the rock, and were all connected to 16 miles of
    tunnels.
  • 20,000 soldiers had laid dead.
  • General Kuribayashi was the Japanese Commander
    during the time.
  • The event was fought entirely beneath the ground.

Okinawa
  • This Battle lasted from late March through June
    1945.
  • On the island of Okinawa a battle took place
    known as operation Ice Burg occurred
  • It was also the largest amphibious assault in the
    Pacific Theater of World War II.
  • The Typhoon of Steel battle got its nickname
    because of the ships, gun fire and armored
    vehicles involved.
  • battle was one of the highest casualties of the
    war.
  • 90,000 Japanese soldiers were lost. 50,000
    soldiers Fighting for America were also lost.

Coral Sea
  • This Battle took place from May 4th to May 8th
    1942.
  • It was fought between the Imperial Japanese Navy,
    the United States Australia.
  • However, it was the first naval battle in
    history, there were not one battle ship sighted
    from either side.
  • Japanese could claim a tactical victory on
    "points, it was operational strategic defeat
    for them.
  • The Japanese operation included two invasion
    forces.
  • -The first targeting Tulagi, in the
    Southern Solomons was minor.
  • -The second aimed at Port Moresby,
    this was the main targeting.

Battle of Midway
  • The Battle occurred from June 4th to June 7th
    1942.
  • This battle was all because the United States
    Navy defeated a Japanese attack against Midway
    Atoll.
  • This battle was a lot like The Attack on Pearl
    Harbor because it was not part of a campaign for
    the conquest of the United States.
  • It was also hoped another defeat would force the
    U.S. to negotiate an end to the Pacific War with
    conditions favorable for Japan.

  • Many different racial groups were able to get
    better jobs.
  • There was hostility towards many Japanese
    Americans.

  • Japanese Americans were placed in internment
    camps.
  • The conditions were horrible and many people
    died.
  • African Americans protested for jobs during the
    wartime.

  • Japanese American women did not get the same job
    opportunities because they were sent to
    internment camps.

    This was the first time that women had served

  • Planes improved drastically over the period of
    the war.
  • Planes that were top of the line in 1939 were
    rendered nearly obsolete by 1945.
  • SONAR became popular.
  • Torpedoes were improved drastically.
  • Directed by compass.
  • Atomic Bomb invented.

  • Ambassador Satio died in 1939, which caused a
    drastic change in the relationship between the
    U.S. and Japan.
  • President Roosevelt was elected to a fourth term,
    which was the most terms of any president of the
    United States.
  • He only served for three and a half terms before
    he died in 1945.

Effects of the War
  • Womens lifestyles were changed permanently, and
    women started fighting harder for better jobs.
  • The radioactivity has not gone away since the
    atom bombs were dropped and Hiroshima and
    Nagasaki are still uninhabitable.
