When you first enter PowerPoint, you will see the
following screen. At this point, you must choose
the type of slide that you wish to start with.
The recommended slide would be called the Title
Slide.
3When choosing your first slide, select the first
one that is highlighted the title slide.
This is simply another view of some of the
selections of slides that can be used. There are
currently 27 different choices that you can make.
In Older versions, you may only have 24 choices.
It doesnt really matter. You have the option to
edit any and/all of them.
Click on it once

The screen that will appear will look like the
above picture. The parts of the screen are
labeled.
5Next, click in the area that says
When you click in that area, you will notice that
the cursor is in the center. All

6Type in the TITLE box

Turn OFF your Caps Lock and type your name in the
Subtitle box.

7Click on Insert and select New Slide
The shortcut keys for this are Ctrl M.
8This is the dialogue box that will appear.
Choose the slide marked Blank for all of the
next slides
9We will now create a background color. Click your
right mouse button on the slide and a menu will
appear. Select Background!
10The dialogue box that will appear will look like
this
Select the window (as shown above) and you will
be able to choose more colors.
11After you select the color that you want, you can
then select
More than one color and the shading styles

Diagonal
From Corner
From Title
13Simply Click on OK and then on Apply to have the
new background take effect. Be careful! Do NOT
click on Apply to All unless you want every one
of the slides to have the same background.
14Next we will look at how to add text to our slide
show presentation.
Before you can type anything on your slide, you
must first have a box that you can put your text.
15On the bottom of the screen, you will find a
drawing toolbar. Find the picture that looks
like a piece of paper with writing on it.
- Click on it once.
- Then, move your mouse pointer to the top left of
the slide on the screen. - Notice the pointer looks like an anchor. Click
and hold down the left mouse button while you
drag across the screen to the right. - Release the mouse button and type your name in
the box you just created. (Press enter) - Next, type in Mr. Karl (Press enter)
- Finally, type Mr. Napoli
16Highlight the names in the text box as you see
below

You now have bullets next to each of the names.
Lets animate them!
18In Custom Animation, click on Add Effect,
Entrance, Fly In (From Right), Speed (Medium)
19- Click your right mouse button on the animation
item. - Click on Effect Options
- Select the Text Animation tab.
- Select By 1st Level Paragraph
20- Click on the Effect tab
- Change the After animation to a different color
- Click on OK
- Now when you play the show, after the text is
done, it will change color for the viewer to
focus on the next line
Now, lets insert a picture from the clipart...
21Click on Insert on the Menu bar at top,
Picture, and Clipart
22The screen will change slightly. You will notice
the change on the right side of the screen now
says Insert clip Art. In the search text box,
type dove and click on search. You will be
see several doves shown.

23Find the picture of the dove and click on it to
select it. Click on Insert to put it into your
slide.
Notice the little buttons around the picture.
(They used to be squares.) They are called
handles. Click on the bottom left handle until
you see the mouse pointer turn into two diagonal
arrows.
24Just an interruption for a special note
You can add graphics (pictures) from the
Internet by clicking your right mouse button on
the picture on the Internet and clicking on
Copy. Then you will go into the PowerPoint
presentation and click the right mouse button on
the slide that you select and click on
Paste. You can also Insert pictures from
files that you have saved on the computer. This
will help if you wish to take pictures with a
digital camera or even use a scanner for your
favorite pictures that you want to include.
25Drag the handle to the center of the bird and
release it. You have just resized the image.
Next, click your left mouse button in the middle
of the bird and hold down the button. Move the
image to the upper left corner of the slide.
You are now going to make it fly...
26Click your RIGHT mouse button one time in the
middle of the bird. A menu will appear. Choose
the selection Custom Animation.
Once again, you will see that the right side of
your screen has changed. It now says Custom
Animation. Click on the box that says Add
Effect. This will expand the menu.
27Add Effect
Entrance
For this exercise, we will simply choose
Entrance from our menu and have the bird Fly
In. The other choices we will experiment with
shortly.
Change to Medium
Change the speed of the animation from Very
Fast to Medium
Select the direction as From Bottom Right
Bottom Right
Youre almost done!
28On the bottom left corner of the screen you will
find 3 icons that look like the following. They
are above the Start Button.
1. Normal View 2. Slide Sorter View 3. Slide Show
We are going to select the Slide Show When you
see your name on the screen, click the left mouse
button or press the space bar on the keyboard.
WOW!!
29Adding Sound to Animation
- At any time that you are adding animation, you
can also add sound. - To add the sound, click on the animation effect
for the dove with your right mouse button - Select Effect Options
- Choose Laser at this time (You can change it in
a minute)
- You can download additional WAV files from the
Internet
30Adding Music to Entire Presentation
- You can add music to play throughout the entire
presentation - This type of file is a MIDI file
- Go to the first page you want to start
- Click on Insert on the menu bar and
- Click on Movies and Sounds
- Sounds from file
- Change your file to look in
- Choose the file you want to play

- A message will appear asking if you want to the
music to start automatically or on mouse click.
Click yes for it to start automatically - A picture of a speaker will appear. Click on it
and drag it off of the screen
- Animate this speaker
- Effect Options
- Start Playing From Beginning
- Stop Playing After ____ Slides
32Make the slides change on their own
- On the menu bar,
- Click on Slide Show
- Click on Slide Transition
- Click on Advance Slide
- Check Automatically
- Type in the time to wait for transition
- Apply to All Slides
33Loop the Show to Play Continuously
Click on Slide Show on the menu bar Click on
Set Up Show
Make sure All is selected
Click on Loop Continuously until Esc
34Congratulations You have finished this tutorial
for creating a slide show presentation. Now its
time create one of our own!
