SAMReN

• The South Asia Migration Resource Network
  (SAMReN) is a collaboration of researchers in
  five South Asian countries Bangladesh, India,
  Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
• Formally launched on 1 April 2004. The main
  activities of this network are
• Activities
• host website,
• organise training workshop,
• providing fellowship,
• develop a resource pool,
• develop briefing notes and
• publish newsletters and research studies.
• Administered by a Core Group representing five
  South Asian countries.

Host Institution

• The Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit
  (RMMRU)
• Secretariat of SAMReN.
• Affiliate of the University of Dhaka
• Research, training, and policy advocacy
  institution since 1995.
• Works actively for policy reforms in areas like
  female migration, remittance transfer and
  utilization, voting rights of camp based Biharis,
  streamlining labour recruitment process etc.

• Development Research Centre On Migration,
  Globalisation Poverty
• Focusing on both internal and international
  flows, and covering a continuum of movements from
  forced to voluntary, the Development Research
  Centre (DRC) on Migration, Globalisation and
  Poverty seeks to
• Provide an opportunity for a coalition of
  partners to develop sustained and in-depth
  research on migration, globalisation and poverty
• Contribute new insights and critical
  understanding of the relationships between
  migration, globalisation and poverty through new
  empirical studies as well as synthesis of
  existing research
• Strengthen the capacity of all six partners in
  the Centre, through a process of mutual learning
• Promote dialogue between the Centre partners and
  a wide range of other actors in both South and
  North.

• The migration DRC is co-ordinated in the UK by
  the Sussex Centre for the Migration Research at
  the University of Sussex.
• The DRC partners include Centre for Economic and
  Social Studies (CESS), Tirana, Albania Refugee
  and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU),
  University of Dhaka, Bangladesh Forced Migration
  and Refugee Studies (FMRS), American University
  at Cairo, Egypt Institute for Statistical, Social
  and Economic Research (ISSER) / Regional
  Institute for Population Studies (RIPS),
  University of Ghana, School of Development
  Studies, University of East Anglia, Norwich and
  Institute of Development Studies, University of
  Sussex.

• DFID
• The Department for International Development
  (DFID) is the part of the UK Government that
  manages Britain's aid to developing countries and
  works to get rid of extreme poverty.
• DFID supports long-term programmes which help
  tackle the underlying causes of poverty. DFID
  also responds to emergencies, both natural and
  man-made. It works with other organisations in
  trying to achieve the eight Millennium
  Development Goals. Some of the organizations
  which DFID work with include governments of other
  countries, civil society, the private sector and
  others. It also works with multilateral
  institutions, including the World Bank, United
  Nations agencies, and the European Commission.
