The First Hundred Days

• March 9 declared a bank holiday
• The passing of the Emergency Banking Act
  including FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance
  Corporation
• Repealed the 18th Amendment and passed the
  Economy Bill.

The New Deal

• NRA (National Recovery Act)
• Schecter vs. The United States outlawed the NRA
  as unconstitutional
• The PWA(Public Works Act) put many people into
  jobs working for the government
• By 1934 the New Deal budget had soared to 5
  billion
• Social Security was added to help the elderly

Accomplishments of FDR 1932-1936

• By 1934 Democrats reached a majority in both the
  house and the Senate.
• Industry was at the level of 1923-25
• Farm incomes had risen
• Unemployment went from 12 mil to 7 mil
• From 1933 the national income rose 60
• In 1936 FDR won the Presidential Election in a
  landslide over Alf Landon.
