Title: Exercise 3:
1Exercise 3
WE WILL BE USING THE ANDES VERSION OF IDRISI
2Purpose of Ex3
- To teach you the problems that arise when
converting manuscript map data to raster digital
data - Usually you will convert Vector data to raster
much easier. - BUT how does the software do that!
3How is it done manually?
- The data is entered into a spreadsheet in this
case Excel - The spread sheet is saved as a
- Space delimited text (.prn) file
- It is then imported into IDRISI
- And the Document file is created
- But first
4Setting up folders
Working folder is C\Workspace\for556\Ex3
Resource folder is C\Workspace\for556\Nifkin32
Created on any machine you use!
5Setting up folders
Move for556 contents around from machine to
machine
Working folder is C\Workspace\for556\Ex3
Resource folder is C\Workspace\for556\Nifkin32
Created on any machine you use!
6Why
- Because
- C\ Workspace in on all cluster machines
- By creating this structure on your flash stick
you can move projects around easily - And neither you nor IDRISI will get confused
7IDRISIs data management
- Consists of two kinds of data folders
- The working folder save stuff to ?
- Resource folders get stuff from ?
- The collection of Paths to these folders make up
an IDIRSI project
C\Workspace\for556\Ex3
