ECR Computers

• 5 labs of PCs networked via Unix and Linux
  servers
• User file storage on drive H
• Do not store files on C
• Any user can access this drive and therefor
  modify or delete your files

ECR Computers

• The Unix servers can be accessed externally (see
  the ECR FAQ for details)
• You may need a Secure Shell connection
• There is no external access to the Windows
  machines, only to your H drive on a server
  called Gromit.ecr.mu.oz.au

Software

• You will need some method of authoring web pages
• ECR supplies Netscape Composer
• You could use MSWord(?)
• There are free packages available
• Computer magazines
• Tucows.com
• Or you could just type HTML in Notepad

• If you work at home,
• you will need a picture processing package
• At least a method of reducing image sizes
• A memory stick, or CD, or an FTP program to move
  files to the ECR lab
• And remember to edit file paths once the files
  are on H
• This will be explained later

Software

• We provide access to MSOffice, as well as the CAD
  package MicroStation
• But not take home versions
• Other software can be used, but I must be able to
  read the files
• You cannot install software in the ECR labs

Some Advice

• Obey all the ECR rules
• ALL internet transactions are logged
• If you visit sites that you should not, then the
  system will lock you out
• All marking feedback for this unit will be sent
  to your ECR email address
• You may wish to set up a forward to your normal
  email
