Title: Parents Burning Questions About:
1Parents Burning Questions About
- Around the World in Eighty Days
21. Why does my student have to do this project
(Why are you putting me through this)?
- the project addresses almost all of the state
standards for English II - to help students learn valuable skills and
showcase their talents - to provide real world skills of speaking,
reading, writing, and listening - to teach students time management
- To prepare students for the Graduation Project
2. How much will this project count overall of
the semester grade (Can we get away with not
doing it)?
- A large percentage of your semester grade. If
you dont complete the project, you wont pass
English IIB. Around 30 grades will be taken
during the project
33. How much of this project will my student have
to do outside of class, on his/her own (How much
time do I have to set aside) ?
- About half of it. Some of the research will be
done in class. None of the project will be done
in class. Some preparation for Day 80 will be
done in class.
4. What help is available to my student (How are
you going to fix this)?
- Teachers are available before and after school.
If students dont tell us - they need help, then we cant help them. They
also can use their handbooks for any help.
Workshops are also already scheduled for the
projects.
45. Do students have to come to school at night
for the final presentation (Are you nuts)?
- Yes. It is two test grades. The only reason a
student doesnt have to come is if he or she has
already failed the project. Then, that student
hasnt earned the right. We work with students
who have last minute emergencies or
school-related sports conflicts. You will be
invited to come and celebrate with us.
6. How much money will this cost me (Can I pay
enough to get an A)?
- Whatever your student decides to put into it. The
money you spend does not correspond to a good
grade there have been wonderful projects that
did not cost anything. If students need help with
funding, they need to see their teacher.
57. What can I do to help?
- You can donate your time to help with some
project workshops, or you can help support the
project fund for supplies for students who need
it. - You can participate in the Pampered Chef
Fundraiser in February. - You can allow your student to discover their
talents on their own and be there to guide them
through the process, encouraging their
independence while providing support.
8. How can I stay informed as to due dates or
other information?
- Make sure we have your correct e-mail address so
you can receive weekly updates. - Visit the AWED website at http//www.awedtabor.org
to check on due dates.
69. Can my student use this project for their
Graduation Project?
- If they choose to do their Graduation Project on
a topic they used in their Around the World in
Eighty Days Project, that will be okay, as long
as they add to it or research it from a different
angle.
10. Will I survive this?
- Yes, you will, along with your student! We have
worked hard to provide all of the support that
both students and parents need. We have thirteen
years experience to draw on, so we look forward
to seeing your smiling face on Day 80!
