Our Community Service Program Vision

• To develop a whole - school approach to
  implementing a successful community service
  program
• To utilise our school community first, then local
  community and finally wider community

Term One

• Plan, Plan, Plan - I dedicated the whole first
  term to planning and getting staff support. This
  included
• Auditing all learning areas
• Professional Development for Staff explaining
  the requirements of CSP
• Developed WCHS policy and guidelines based on DET
• Inducted all students into the CSP
• Informed parents of the CSP
• Established a student community service committee

Challenges

• TIME 0.4 is not enough for 400 students, plus
  Acting Level 3 VET Coordinator and a teaching
  load (as there is a teacher shortage and no one
  to teach my classes!)
• Why are we starting year 10, lots of community
  service going on in year 8 and 9 as well
• Staff Support not just a couple from each
  learning area
• Students keeping me informed
• Staff keeping me informed

What will I do differently in 2008

• Start Term One the planning has already been
  done this year and processes are in place
• Establish Community Service Plans from each
  learning area increase accountability

Successes

• It has been a rewarding and value laden exercise
• Every time a student says to me I have finished
  my hours
• The banter in the yard about selling spare hours
  on ebay or bartering their hours to students
  who have not finished
• Every time a teacher presents me with an idea for
  community service
• Receiving awards for community service completed
  so far
