  • 1947 - Born in Portland, Maine as Stephen Edwin
    King.
  • Parents Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King.
  • Older brother - David.
  • Parents separated when Stephen was a toddler.

  • Attended University of Maine at Orono.
  • Wrote a weekly column for the school newspaper.
  • Graduated in 1970, with a B.A. in English and was
    qualified to teach on the high school level.

  • Stephen King met Tabitha Spruce at college.
  • They met in the stacks of the Fogler Library at
    the University, where they both were student
    workers.
  • Stephen and Tabitha were married in January of
    1971.

  • To pay the bills, he took a fulltime job working
    at an industrial laundry for 60 week.Ā 
  • He then landed a full time teaching job from
    1971-73.
  • The sale of Carrie enabled Mr. King to leave his
    teaching job and finally work full time at what
    he loved to do most, write!
