14
More on Grading
  • Borderline situations I have to stick with the
table on prior slide to maintain equity.
  • Exam day is a bit bureaucratic, please bear with
    us.
  • We use Gradebook
  • Access through link on course website,
  • or www.uiuc.edu/ccso/gradebook

15
Exam Absences
  • The principle only major events beyond your
control should or can be accepted for exam
    absence.
  • This is the best way to maintain fairness
  • Normally, only illness, emergency, or jury duty
absences are approvable for exam absence.
  • You do need to get a Dean of Students letter.
  • But, I realize this is just a course so if
there is something really important to you, ask.
  • If you miss an exam without an approved absence,
you may be able to take a makeup for reduced
    credit.

16
Extra Credit Quizzes
  • There will be 4 extra credit quizzes or
    exercises.
  • These will be in-class and they will be
    unannounced.
  • These quizzes will be relatively easy if you have
    prepared.
  • Quizzes may cover material for the class they are
given in, and/or the class before.
  • Scores are 0, 1, or 2 points on each quiz as
    follows
  • 2 points passing grade (for example, 4 of 6
    questions).
  • 1 points for turning the quiz in.
  • 0 points for not turning the quiz in.

17
Extra Credit Lab studies
  • Extra credit is given from participating in
    behavioral lab studies.
  • The currency is credits. Each study is one or
    two credits.
  • The maximum of credits allowed is 2. Each
credit is worth 3 points. Max points total
    6.
  • You need to have a signed, stamped slip that will
be turned in at the end of the semester. Treat
    them like cash.
  • Sign up at Wohlers 50 or as announced.
  • Dont get caught needing extra credit at the end.

18
More on extra credit
  • 2 points a quiz or 3 points a study may seem
    small. But consider
  • Quizzes If you get 8 points on those quizzes you
    are 80 of the way from a C to a B-, or a B to
A-. Thats in addition to the fact you probably
did better on the exams than you would have
    otherwise!
  • Studies If you get 6 points from the studies,
you are 60 of the way. And youve probably only
    spent 3 hours total.
  • I reserve the right to provide additional extra
credit opportunities of any kind at any point.
  • No special extra credit can be given to
    individual students.

    far back as possible.

  • If you come to class, plan on staying until the
end of class. If you must leave early, do so

through to page 40 plus pg 46-47, in text.
  • Testing 123 Chapter 1, skip 9, 12, 14, 19, 21.
    Chapter 2, skip 3, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13-21.

  • Complete instructions for starting the CD are on
the package, as well as specifications for the
    computer.
  • Get the first screen up, click on Click here to
begin then click in the video area on the top
    left, under pilot video.
  • View the full pilot video

23
For Next Time (continued)
  • Testing 1-2-3 (T123) questions
  • These are short questions embedded in the
textbook. Besides being a good study guide, they
are a good way to indicate what parts of the text
we will skip (not on exam). (but see below)
  • Before each class I will provide a list of
questions to skip. Reading through the questions
before reading the text will let you read with
questions in mind a big plus.
  • If we didnt cover it in class, but a question is
not on the skip list, it is part of the class
content (i.e., it may be on exam).
  • after a question just means we cover it in
class but differently than the text (i.e.,
in-class version may be on exam). If there is a
difference between the text and the in-class
version, in-class version wins. Usually I will
    highlight this explain.

24
Mastering Management CD-ROM Technical Information
  • IBM or Macintosh OK
  • Specs on back of package
  • Use a lab computer if necessary or convenient
  • Must use Internet Explorer or Netscape
  • AOL browser reportedly not reliable
  • Requires Quicktime
  • Quicktime is on the CD.
  • Used textbooks The 1.0 version of the CD may
require downloading a new version of quicktime.

25
Problems with the CD?
  • This should only happen if you have bought a used
    textbook
  • The CD will be fine, most likely you need an
    updated version of Quicktime.
  • Check the course website www.cba.uiuc.edu/ba210
    for detailed troubleshooting instructions
