Geography
  • Located in Southeastern Europe
  • Borders the Black Sea
  • Borders Bulgaria, Hungary,Moldova, Serbia and
    Montenegro, and Ukraine
  • Area-237,500 sq km
  • (a bit smaller than Oregon)

History
  • Has been a part of the Roman Empire and the
    Ottoman Empire. It was also part of the
    communist block until 1989.
  • Nicolae Ceausescu was dictator from 1965 to 198.
    He was overthrown and executed in 1989.
  • Joined NATO in 2004
  • Hopes to join the European Union. Currently, it
    looks like it will join in 2007.

  • Capital- Budapest
  • Independence- Romania proclaimed its from the
    Ottoman Empire on May 9. 1877. Its independence
    was recognized 13 July 1878 by the Treaty of
    Berlin. On December 30, 1947, Romania was
    proclaimed a republic.
  • The constitution was signed December 8, 1981.
    Revisions to the constitution went into effect
    October 29, 2003
  • National Holiday- Unification Day (of Romania and
    Transylvania),
  • December 1, (1918)

    Vlad the Impaler, and he lived in the 1400s.
