2Poseidon, F.A.Q.By, Brittany Bazeley
- Ten years after the fall of Troy, Odysseus still
needs to return home to his wife and palace. - On his journey home, he is captured by Calypso
and imprisoned on her island. Odysseus wants
desperately to escape and after his heroic
actions in the war, most of the gods wanted to
help him. - Hermes was sent to rescue him. She persuaded
Calypso to let him build a boat in order for him
to escape and Calypso agreed. - Although most of the gods were happy that
Odysseus was leaving Calypso to return to his
wife, Poseidon was not. Earlier in the war,
Odysseus had blinded Poseidons son and Poseidon
wanted revenge. - Once Odysseus had managed to sail away from the
island and into the sea, Poseidon sent a huge
storm to kill Odysseus. Luckily, Athena rescued
Odysseus from Poseidons wrath and led him to
safety.
3Poseidon F.A.Q. 1-2
Q Who are you related to?
A I am one of the six original Olympians. I am
the son of Kronos and Rheia, brother of Zeus,
Hades, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera.
Q What are you the god of, what powers do you
have? A I am the God of the Sea and all sea
creatures are my creation. I also devised the
horse. My powers consist of controlling the ocean
for example, The sea and the wind rose at
Poseidons command and with his trident he
staggered the sea and let loose the storm blasts
against Odysseus and his tiny raft. I am also
called the earth shaker and earth encircler
because my favorite thing to do is beat the
earth, causing earth quakes, and slur the sea
from the power held within my trident and myself.
4Questions 3-4
- Q How would you describe your physical features?
- A I am an older man with a long white beard and
deep wrinkles. Some say I have the figure of a
merman, but others say I look human. I am always
shadowed by sea life or horses. I generally carry
a gold trident and drive a horse drawn carriage. - Q Why did you create the horse?
- A Athena and I were in a contest held by Zeus to
make the most useful object. The winner would get
the capital of Greece named after them. Athena
created the olive and won. Therefore, the city
was named Athens. I lost, but created the horse.
5F.A.Q.s 5-6
- Q What are your strongest and weakest qualities?
- A My strongest quality would be my creativity.
Im good at discovering animals and racing
carriages. My bad qualities are my unpredictable
temper, my weakness in war, and my moodiness.
When I am happy, the ocean reflects my mood and
is calm and peaceful, but when I get upset, the
worlds condition results in earthquakes,
tornados, storms, and shipwrecks.
- Q Who relies on you, what do they believe, and
do they sacrifice anything? - A Sailors and people who live near the shore
pray to me often. They believe I control the
ocean based on their behavior. They ask for calm
seas, a year without tornados, and voyages with
limited hardships. They sacrifice horses in my
honor by drowning them in my oceans.
6Question 7
- Q Do you have anything to do with the making of
Atlantis? - A Surprisingly I dont. People built Atlantis
themselves, they invaded my seas without
permission and built a large city. My brother
Zeus and I believed these people were rude and
dangerous so, together we sunk their city.
78
Q How would you explain your family life? A My
wife, Amphitrite and I have many children. I
guess you could say Im second to Zeus in having
kids. A few of my children are Triton, Rhode, and
Benthescyme. My wife and I live together under
water, in my palace made of coral, gems, gold,
and sea creatures. I also have a love affair with
Medusa.
