1953 Foundation of L. Hauser KG in Lörrach
(D) 1956 The first two measurement devices
developed by G.H. Endress join the product
range. They are produced in a former joiners
workshop in Lörrach-Stetten (D) and in
surrounding buildings. 1959 The fledgling
company is now renamed EndressHauser
GmbH. 1960 The first branch office abroad
opens in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, shortly
followed by the second in Switzerland. 1961 The
fast growing company, now with 120 employees,
relocates to a new building in the nearby
rural community of Maulburg (D).
1962 Subsidiaries are founded in Saint-Louis (F)
and Brussels (B).
4Milestones 1963 to 1972

1968 Mestra AG is founded in Basel (CH) as
holding company for the group, forerunner of
the present-day EH Holding AG in Reinach
(CH). 1970 EH opens up markets outside
Europe subsidiary near Boston, Mass. (USA),
share in Sakura Instrument Co. Ltd., Tokyo
(Japan). The printed circuit board manufacturer
Photo Print Electronic GmbH (ppe) is
founded. 1971 Ludwig Hauser, now 76, retires
from his post of CEO. He dies four years later.
The Hauser family withdraws, leaving the
Endress family as sole shareholder.
5Milestones 1973 to 1982
EndressHauser
1974 EH sales centers are established in Italy
and Denmark and one year later in
Finland. 1976 EH expands into new work areas
by taking over Wetzer (measurement recording)
in Pfronten (D). 1977 EH takes over the
majority shareholding in Conducta (analytical
measurement) in Gerlingen near Stuttgart
(D). Flowtec AG (flow measurement) is founded
in Reinach (CH). 1979 PPE constructs a new
factory in Schopfheim (D) for printed circuit
boards. 1980 A research and development center
is built in Maulburg for seven million Deutschm
arks. Microelectronics arrive the worlds first
level switch with total self-monitoring is
launched. 1981 EH Flowtec AG launches its first
electromagnetic flowmeter on the market with
great success. EH Maulburg inaugurates a
laboratory for thin-film technology it will
become the basis for the new "Pressure
measurement" work area.
6Milestones 1983 to 1992

1983 The Liquiphant, a revolutionary level
switch working on the tuning fork principle,
is born. It is joined by ultrasonic transmitter
s and radiometric processes for level
measurement. 1986 With the m-point, EH Flowtec
AG introduces the first straight-pipe mass
flowmeter based on the Coriolis principle and
receives an innovation award for its
work. 1989 The Trinational Apprentice Training
Program is started during their
apprenticeship, apprentices switch between
German, French and Swiss EH companies. An EH
subsidiary starts in Hong Kong. 1990 In Germany,
sales and service are restructured in separate
companies. EH companies are founded in
Malaysia, Canada and Spain. 1991 EH Flowtec AG
starts a production center for flowmeters in
Cernay (F). EH Conducta starts another
production center for pH electrodes in
Waldheim (D), in eastern Germany. 1992 First
certification to ISO 9000. The first instruments
with Fieldbus communication are launched. The
standard which EH helped to develop allows the
bidirectional digital transmission of data
between sensor and control center.
7Milestones 1993 to 1999

1993 The Sales Center for Germany and the
Information Center for the entire group start
operation in Weil am Rhein (D). 1995
Generation change at the head of the company
Klaus Endress, second son of the companys
founder, takes over from his father Dr. h.c.
Georg H. Endress as CEO (Chief Executive Officer)
of the group of companies. 1996 The
production of level measurement devices starts in
Shanghai (China). PPE builds a new factory
for mobile telephone printed circuit boards
in Pulversheim (F). EH subsidiaries start up in
Poland and India. 1997 EH is now
represented in the Czech Republic. 1998 PROFIBUS
PA helps fieldbus technology to break through in
process automation. A company Sales Center
starts up in Korea. 1999 EH is represented in
South America by a subsidiary in Argentina and
a joint venture with Samson in Brazil.
8Milestones 2000 until today
EndressHauser
2000 EH increases its presence on other
growth markets. Beijing Instrumentation Co.
(China) becomes an EH subsidiary a new
production center for flowmeters opens in
Aurangabad (India). Analytical measurement is
expanded by strategic acquisitions in the USA
and Germany. New Sales Centers open in Mexico and
Chile. 2001 After years of losses, the
telecommunication crisis forces PPE to close.
The factory in Pulversheim (F) is closed and
the company is removed from the EH Group.
Hungary and Ireland join the group as new
Sales Centers in Europe through the start-up of
EH Australia in Sydney, the company is now
present on all 5 continents.
2002 Dr. h.c. Georg H. Endress retires completely
from the business. Klaus Riemenschneider, EH
Manager for many years, is appointed chairman
of the new Supervisory Board of EH Holding AG.
Portugal receives a Sales Center.
